It wouldn't be 2020 if there wasn't some curious eventuality that probably nobody expected. While we cover SpaceX's plans for a trip to Mars on a near-daily basis, now we have something that has sparked a far more heated response. An unknown monolith appeared in Utah, and Internet ufologists automatically began to assume that we were preparing for a nice alien invasion. Fortunately, however, this theory was debunked, and again by none other than internet fanatics who spent every spare moment trying to unravel the mystery. And in addition, we have TikTok, which is catching a second wind thanks to the departure of Donald Trump, and Disney, which, on the other hand, is losing its breath due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Earthlings, tremble. An unknown monolith as a harbinger of the arrival of an alien civilization?

We assume that even this headline will not surprise you too much this year. We've already had a pandemic, killer hornets, wildfires in California and Australia. The arrival of an extraterrestrial civilization is a kind of next natural step that awaits us before the end of the year. Or maybe not? The mysterious monolith that appeared in the American Utah was reported by the media all over the world, and the news was immediately caught by ufologists from all countries, who took it as an automatic confirmation that we were visited by a higher intelligence. At the same time, the monolith is strikingly reminiscent of the one from the movie 2001: A Space Odyssey, which especially pleased fans of this cult film. But as it turns out, the truth is ultimately somewhere else, as it usually is.

Understandably, none other than Reddit users, who are known for their enthusiasm, came to solve the mystery. According to a short video, they were able to determine the approximate area of occurrence of the monolith and mark the location on Google Earth. It was this discovery that finally revealed that the Utah monolith appeared sometime between 2015 and 2016, the time when the popular sci-fi series Westworld was filmed at the same location. Chance? We don't think so. It is thanks to this popular series that it can be assumed that the authors themselves built the monolith on the spot as a prop and somehow forgot to disassemble it again. Another theory is that it was a rather elaborate artistic prank. However, we will leave the final conclusion to your discretion.

TikTok is catching another breath. Above all, thanks to the involuntary departure of Donald Trump

We have been reporting on the popular app TikTok quite regularly lately, and as it soon became clear, the case surrounding this platform is crazier than it might seem at first glance. After long, months-long battles between the company ByteDance and the now former US President Donald Trump, it seems that TikTok is catching another breath. It was Donald Trump and his loyal advisers who decided to shut down the tipec platform and ban the American public from using it. A few experts agreed that the company could collect the data of American citizens and then use it for nefarious purposes. Thus began the well-known witch hunt, which fortunately did not end in such a fiasco.

The American court rejected the complete ban of TikTok and WeChat several times, and the election of Democratic opponent Joe Biden was a clear signal that the situation is turning in ByteDance's favor. And basically to the benefit of all Chinese tech giants, including Tencent. But this does not mean that TikTok has won, the company only has more time to conclude an agreement with one of the American partners. In particular, negotiations are underway with Walmart and Oracle, which could bring the desired fruit. In any case, we can only wait to see if this never-ending soap opera-style story will have a sequel.

Disney is in trouble. Up to 28 employees will lose their jobs due to the coronavirus pandemic

The coronavirus pandemic has affected almost all industries, and the entertainment industry was no exception. Although the sudden social change contributed to the huge growth of the virtual world, there was not much to celebrate in the case of the real one. Disney, in particular, has been busy in recent months trying to retool its portfolio to be more in line with the current climate. We are talking about famous amusement parks, which are visited by millions of people every year. Due to the spread of the COVID-19 disease, the company was understandably forced to make certain structural changes, to close all its parks around the world and, above all, to send home thousands of employees who worked in them. And that turned out to be quite possibly the biggest problem.

Disney relies on the governments of individual states and their decisions, which are governed by how much the coronavirus is spreading in a given country. In the case of the United States, it is a rather sad and uncertain situation, where the spread does not stop and, on the contrary, the great power breaks new records in the number of infected every day. In any case, this giant was forced to temporarily lay off up to 28 employees, and this only applies to the United States. Although the situation is significantly better in other countries, it is still not certain when the mass opening of services and tourism will take place. Disney thus de facto cannot plan too far into the future, because no one knows what will happen the next day. Let's see how the "fairytale society" will deal with this.
