Operating systems from Apple have several features in common. In all cases, the giant from Cupertino, California relies on overall simplicity, minimalist design and great optimization, which can be described as the basic building blocks of modern software from Apple's workshop. Of course, the emphasis on privacy and security also plays an important role. Moreover, systems have moved forward quite significantly in recent years. For example, in the case of iOS, Apple users appreciate the arrival of widgets on the desktop or a customizable lock screen, or also concentration modes that are linked across all systems.

On the other hand, we could encounter a number of different shortcomings. For example, macOS still lacks a high-quality volume mixer or a way to attach windows to the corners of the screen, which has been commonplace for competitors for years. In a way, however, one rather fundamental imperfection is being forgotten, which affects both iOS and iPadOS, as well as macOS. We are talking about the top bar menu. It would deserve a fundamental overhaul.

How Apple can change the menu bar

Let's therefore focus on how Apple could actually change or improve the menu bar itself. Let's start specifically with macOS, where the bar hasn't changed in any way for years, while we keep moving forward through natural evolution. The fundamental problem arises when we work with an application with many options, and at the same time our menu bar occupies several active items. In such a case, it often happens that we completely lose access to some of these options, as they will simply be covered. This problem would definitely be worth solving, and a relatively simple solution is offered.

According to the words and requests of the apple lovers themselves, Apple could be inspired by its changes to the lock screen from iOS 16 and thus incorporate the option for complete personalization of the top menu bar into the macOS system. Thanks to this, users would be able to choose for themselves which items they do not need to see all the time, what they need to see all the time, and how the system should work with the bar in general. After all, the same possibilities are already available in a way. But there is a rather major catch - in order to use them, you have to pay for a third-party application. Otherwise you are simply out of luck.

A similar lack continues in the case of iOS and iPadOS. We don't need such extensive options here, but it certainly wouldn't hurt if Apple made easy editing available to Apple users. This applies especially to the system for apple phones. When we open the notification bar, on the left side we will see our operator, while on the right there is an icon informing about signal strength, Wi-Fi / Cellular connection and battery charge status. When we are on the desktop or in an application, for example, the right side does not change. Only the left side shows the current clock and possibly also an icon informing about the use of location services or the active concentration mode.

But is carrier information something we really need to keep an eye on all the time? Everyone has to answer this question for themselves, in any case, in general, it can be said that in the end it is completely unnecessary information, without which we could do without. Apple, on the other hand, would pleasantly surprise its users if it offered them a choice, similar to the aforementioned lock screen in iOS 16.

When will the bar menu change come?

In conclusion, one important question remains. Whether and when we will see these changes at all. Unfortunately, no one knows the answer to that yet. It is not even clear from Apple whether it has the ambition to embark on something like this. But if he was really planning changes, then we know that in the best case we will have to wait several months for them. The Cupertino giant traditionally presents new versions of its operating systems on the occasion of the WWDC developer conference, which takes place every year in June. Would you welcome a redesign of the top menu bars within apple operating systems?
