Press Release: We present you an example of the practical use of a NAS server. The blog #cestujemespolu is one of the largest Slovak travel blogs, it is followed by almost 50 users of social networks.

The blog inspires young people and shows them that even if they have a regular job and a regular income, it is possible to travel to attractive places and fulfill their dreams. The #cestujemespolu portal offers a number of reports, tips and tricks for travel, unique 360-degree photos and videos and, above all, authentic mediation of travel experiences.

In 2016, we visited almost 20 destinations in four months, from where we brought back tens of thousands of images taken with various devices (smartphone, GoPro camera, compact camera or drone). The basic premise was to have all multimedia material together so that it is accessible from anywhere. And, of course, it must also be backed up so that you never lose your unique footage.

During our trip through South America, we also went to the mythical city of the Incas, Machu Picchu. We traveled for several days, got up at four in the morning and honestly hiked to the top to see this wonder of the world at sunrise. We know that this kind of view does not just happen to us, so it is extremely important to us that we do not lose these shots. As one of the first people in the world, we took a 360-degree video at Machu Picchu and we know that we have it safely stored on a Synology NAS server.

Through a reader survey, we found that almost half of users only back up photos to an external drive. However, such hard drives often break down, have a relatively small capacity and, above all, do not offer anything extra. A NAS device not only solves the question of sufficient capacity, but also brings a number of additional functions that are useful in everyday life: backup, sorting photos by faces or by location, easy sharing and more. When we're on the go, it's easy to break our camera or cell phone or have it stolen. Thanks to automatic backups through the Moments application, even in such cases we have photos not only stored safely at home, but also sorted and categorized.

We saw Synology as an established brand in the technology world, so we had an awareness of what it had to offer. When we learned that a NAS solution from this company could exactly cover our requirements, the choice was very simple. We were looking for not the cheapest, but the most reliable solution.

We use a Synology DS216play NAS server, equipped with two 2TB mirrored WD Red hard drives. The device is continuously connected to the Internet with access from anywhere in the world. We have combined all existing backups (from USB flash drives, external hard drives and Internet storage) into one centralized backup.

Synology DS216play:

Before using a NAS server, we often solved the question of where and how to save photos so as not to lose them. We trust Synology devices 100% because we know that photos are stored safely. We don't want and can't let our readers down, that's why we have everything saved on the Synology device in case of any outage.

In 2018, no traveler can do without a professional solution for working with thousands of photos. In addition, we need something that will save us in crisis situations, for example, automatic backup of photos from the mobile phone. Comfort when working with photos is enhanced by a wide range of additional applications, of which we mainly use the Moments application, designed for extremely easy sharing of images.

Thanks to the Synology DS216play device, we moved tens of thousands of photos and videos, originally scattered on dozens of different media, under one roof. Thanks to the sufficient capacity, the NAS server also allows us to store images in RAW format so that we can use them better in the future. However, the most important thing for us is the automatic backup and mirroring of the content in case of failure of one of the hard drives.

Synology's Moments app:

When traveling around the world, the process of backups from different devices was too complicated: First, you had to copy the footage taken from the memory cards to the computer, then to an external hard drive, and after returning home to sort everything, which meant long hours and days of work. Today, we back up directly to the private cloud during the trip, so everything is physically safely stored in the company from the moment the backup process is started. In the case of snapshots taken with your phone, the process is even easier - all the shots will automatically appear in the Moments app.

When we calculate how much time and money we save thanks to Synology solutions, at least once a year we have a great vacation for the money saved. And we don't have to be technical gurus, we can set up and operate everything with ordinary experience. All we need is a computer and an internet browser, or just a mobile phone. Synology is our partner wherever we are in the world.
