They were entertained yesterday at the Apple Store in Zurich, Switzerland. The store had to be temporarily evacuated because the battery of the iPhone being repaired caught fire during a routine service operation. The accident caused a small fire and a huge amount of toxic smoke that closed the store for several hours. Several employees and visitors had to be treated after the incident.
The accident happened when the service technician was replacing the battery in the iPhone. During this operation, it overheated and subsequently exploded, during which the technician was burned and others present were affected by toxic fumes. The rescue service treated six people, a total of fifty of them had to be evacuated from the store.
According to the investigation, the culprit is a faulty battery, which was either damaged by the phone user before he went to replace it, or was damaged in some way by improper handling by the technician. Rapid heating of the battery caused the electrolyte found in Li-ion batteries to ignite. The whole incident was probably similar to what the batteries of last year's Samsung Note 7 faced. Apple has not commented on the incident, most likely it should not be a widespread problem affecting more devices. The type of iPhone and the old battery are unknown, so it is not possible to assess whether it was a case of battery replacement within discounted events, which Apple prepared for this year as a response to the case of iPhones slowing down.

This week I also changed the battery of my iPhone 6. The original battery was glued from the bottom with white silicone after approx. 60% of the area. To remove the battery, I had to use a screwdriver and forcefully pry it out of the phone. During mining, the whole battery twisted and started to emit white smoke. For a while I was afraid that the whole thing would explode. Before I got the battery out of the phone, I managed to smoke it several times. In the end, everything turned out fine and the new battery works perfectly. After this experience, I'm not surprised that there could have been an incident like in the Swiss Apple store.
At the same time, I can confirm that after replacing the battery there was a significant increase in the phone's performance.
Well, especially that you are whole and that it helped :-). I'll try replacing the fuse, hopefully that will work. The phone is 2 years and a month old ;-).
