There are visionaries in the world who have a revolutionary idea that they can turn into reality with design in mind. The others, who lack the appropriate vision, then try to transform these ideas into their solution. Of course, they cannot avoid copying, because they always actually start from the original concept.

Of course, the first iPhone, which was a clear revolution in the world of mobile phones, played a fundamental role in this. But the iPad also followed, which gave rise to a new segment, when many owners of Android tablets called their machines iPad, because in the beginning this designation was synonymous with the tablet. We may be a decade later, but that doesn't mean that various manufacturers haven't resorted to copying the design.

Copy and paste

At the same time, these are the smaller and progressive brands that need to be attracted. Apple's biggest competitor Samsung has already given up. Or rather, he understood that he needed to differentiate himself, rather than being the one bringing similar solutions to Apple (probably with the exception of the Smart Monitor M8). This is also why its line of Galaxy S22 phones (and indeed the previous Galaxy S21) is already very different, and the South Korean manufacturer also bet on a different design here, which really succeeded. Even here, at least in the frame of the device, you can still see some inspiration from earlier iPhones. It's the same with tablets. That is, at least with the top of its portfolio in the form of the Galaxy Tab S8 Ultra, which, for example, was the first tablet to feature a cutout in the display for front cameras. But their backs are also very different.

Take one situation from the watch industry. The Omega company belongs to the Swatch company, where the first mentioned brand has in its portfolio the most iconic watch model, which was the first to be on the moon. The parent company has now decided to capitalize on this by making a lightweight model of this watch in a wide range of colors, and at a drastically lower price too. But the Omega logo is still on the dial of the watch, and people still attack the brand's brick-and-mortar boutiques for that, because the market is still not saturated, even if there are no longer queues for them like on the day of the sale. What about the fact that "MoonSwatch" are not steel and have an ordinary battery movement.

Apple iPad x Vivo Pad

It's a bit of a different situation with regards to copying and reusing the design, but now take a look at Vivo's latest news. Her tablet not only got a strikingly similar name to that of the iPad, only without the characteristic "i" for Apple, but the machine also looks completely similar not only in terms of its appearance but also the system.

It's true that it's hard to come up with a tablet that's just a flatbread with a large display from the front, but the Vivo Pad is very similar from the back, including a sizable photo module. It's still just an appearance, however, copying the appearance of the system is very brave (or stupid?). Vivo names its superstructure as Origin OS HD, where the term "origin" means origin. So is this system really "original"? That could be debated, what is certain is that Vivo is going the way of a lot of controversy.

What about the world? What about the users? What about the manufacturers? We used to have legal battles here for every button or similar icon, today we don't hear about anything like that. It seems that even Apple has given up on trying to defend its product design and rather plays on the fact that he is the one who came up with something like this and he is the only original. But customers can more easily jump to the competition, which offers the same thing in terms of appearance, only it lacks the bitten apple. And that's not good for Apple.
