The startup company Misfit, which was founded with the help of former Apple CEO John Sculley, has now negotiated a partnership with the seller of iPhones and iPads. The Apple Store will be selling the Shine tracking device, which was developed by Misfit and can be attached anywhere on the body.

Misfit was founded on the day Steve Jobs died, both as a tribute to the late Apple co-founder and as a tribute to the legendary Think Different campaign. The company's first product, the Shine personal device, was originally financed with the help of an Indiegogo campaign, which earned more than 840 thousand dollars (over 16 million crowns).

Shine is about the size of a quarter touted as the world's most elegant tracker (tracking device) physical activity. The device for $120 (2 crowns) includes a three-axis accelerometer and can be attached in different ways, for example on a sports belt, a necklace or a leather strap that holds the product on the wrist like a watch. The device pairs with an iPhone app that records physical activity as measured by the device, allowing users to track their progress and set personal goals.

Shine also tells the time, tracks sleep and performs other activities. The minimalist body of the device is made of high-quality aircraft-grade aluminum with 1560 laser-drilled holes. They allow light to pass through the device while remaining waterproof. According to Misfit's website, the CR2023 battery in the device lasts four months on a single charge.

Apple Story in the United States, Canada, Japan and Hong Kong will now sell this possible fashion accessory. Stores in Europe and Australia will start selling the Shine in early September.

Misfit co-founder John Sculley is widely regarded as one of the main reasons why Steve Jobs left Apple years ago. Sculley claims that he never fired Jobs, but admits that it was a big mistake that he was even hired as CEO. While Apple's sales grew from $800 million to $8 billion during Sculley's era, today the 74-year-old Florida native has also faced criticism for abusing Jobs as well as the Mac's transition to the PowerPC platform. The appearance of Shine in Apple Stores will represent another significant shift in the unstoppable transition of manufacturers to wearable technology. Market analysts believe that manufacturers will sell five million smartwatches in 2014, a significant increase from the projected 500 sales for this year.

That number will likely include goods from Sony, Misfit (aka Shine), and another startup, Pebble. This area is also likely to be filled by Apple, which has already made moves to introduce an iOS-compatible watch. Apple is likely to find strong competition from companies such as Google, Microsoft, LG, Samsung and others as interest in this area of the market grows.
