In their most famous game, the developers from Acid Wizard Studio combine two realities that go together like eggs and bacon - the genre of video game horror and setting in dark forests. In the titular Darkwood, in the shoes of the nameless hero, you will have to learn how to survive in the wilderness, which, in addition to the usual forest dangers, hides a number of terrifying supernatural monsters.

Darkwood differs from many other horror games mainly in its approach in the point of view itself, with which it offers you the opportunity to penetrate its world. While the competition in the genre relies mainly on a first-person view to bring you appropriately close to the horrors you should be afraid of, Darkwood zooms out the virtual camera high into the sky. It then gives you a bird's-eye view of your character as they make their way through the dark forest in search of the resources they need to survive another terrifying night. During the survey, however, you cannot see your entire immediate surroundings, but only the cone of light in front of you. Darkwood thus builds terror through the contrast between what you see and what lies beyond your view. And that you can encounter a number of dangers in the local forests.

What lends the game a unique touch is its visual style. They mainly stand out in the dark pixel art graphics well done animation enemies that can wring unpleasant emotions from pixel ponds. Strange people with deer antlers or monsters splitting themselves in half will worry you day and night. You can only pray and carefully make your way through the forest in order to reach the vital resources that will allow you to survive the night in your humble abode and at some point in the future, perhaps even leave the terrifying forest that you willy-nilly consider your temporary home.
