Another big player has joined the Czech market of VOD services, or video-on-demand services. After all, HBO Max has replaced the limited HBO GO, and thus ranks among truly full-fledged services. If you are speculating on which service to start using, user accounts also play a significant role in the decision. These determine how many users can watch available content on their device.

Netflix

Netflix offers different types of subscriptions. These are Basic (199 CZK), Standard (259 CZK) and Premium (319 CZK). They differ not only in the quality of the streaming resolution (SD, HD, UHD), but also in the number of devices on which you can watch at the same time. It is one for Basic, two for Standard and four for Premium. So the situation with sharing an account to other people is that you can't walk in Basic, because there can only be one stream.

If you have multiple devices, you can watch Netflix on whichever one you want. Your subscription just determines the number of devices you can watch on at the same time. It does not limit the number of devices you can connect to your account. If you want to watch on a new or different device, all you have to do is log in to Netflix with your data.

HBO Max

The new HBO Max will cost you 199 CZK per month, but if you activate the service before the end of March, you will get a 33% discount, and that forever, that is, even if the subscription becomes more expensive. You won't still be paying the same 132 CZK, but 33% less compared to the new price. One subscription can have up to five profiles, which each user can define in their own way and when the content of one is not displayed to the other. A simultaneous stream can be run on three devices. So if you're really "shareable" you can give your account to two other people to use. However, the terms and conditions found on the HBO Max website specifically state the following:

“We may limit the maximum number of authorized users you may add or may use the Platform at the same time. User permissions are limited to your immediate family members or members of your household."

Apple TV +

Apple's VOD service costs CZK 139 per month, but you can also use an Apple One subscription together with Apple Music, Apple Arcade and 200GB of storage on iCloud for CZK 389 per month. In both cases, you can share the subscription with up to five people as part of Family Sharing. So far, Apple does not check which people they are, whether they are family members or just friends who do not even share a common household. The company doesn't say anything about the number of simultaneous streams, but it should be 6, with each member of the "family" viewing their own content.

Amazon Prime Video

A monthly subscription to Prime Video will cost you 159 CZK per month, however, Amazon currently has a special offer where you can get a subscription for 79 CZK per month. However, this action has been going on for at least a year and its end is not in sight. Up to six users can use one Prime Video account. Through one Amazon account, you can stream a maximum of three videos at a time within the service. If you want to stream the same video on multiple devices, you can only do so on two at a time.
