Meta has introduced the long-awaited Meta Quest Pro VR headset. It's no secret that Meta has quite big ambitions in the field of virtual reality and expects that eventually the whole world will move into the so-called metaverse. After all, that's why it spends a huge amount of money on AR and VR development every year. Currently, the latest addition is the mentioned Quest Pro model. But some fans remain disappointed. For a long time, there has been speculation about the arrival of the successor to the Oculus Quest 2, which is the entry model into the world of virtual reality. However, instead came a high-end headset with a rather surprising price tag.

It is the price that is the main problem. While the base Oculus Quest 2 starts at $399,99, Meta is charging $1499,99 for the Quest Pro as part of pre-sale. At the same time, it is necessary to mention that this is a price for the American market, which can rise considerably here. After all, the same is the case with the mentioned Quest 2, which is available for around 13 thousand crowns, which translates to over 515 dollars. Unfortunately, price is not the only obstacle. It is not for nothing that you may come across the claim that the new VR headset from the Meta company is polished misery. At first glance, it looks exceptional and timeless, but in reality it has a number of shortcomings that we would definitely not want to see in such an expensive product.

But let's take a look at the headset itself and its specifications. This piece is equipped with an LCD display with a resolution of 1800×1920 pixels and a 90Hz refresh rate. To achieve the best results, there is also local dimming and quantum dot technology to increase contrast. At the same time, the headset comes with much better optics ensuring a sharper image. The chipset itself plays an extremely important role. In this regard, the Meta company has bet on the Qualcomm Snapdragon XR2, from which it promises 50% more performance than in the case of the Oculus Quest 2. Subsequently, we will also find 12GB of RAM, 256GB of storage and a total of 10 sensors.

What the Quest Pro VR headset completely dominates are the new sensors for tracking eye and face movements. From them, Meta promises a huge supply precisely in the metaverse, where the virtual avatars of each user can react significantly better and thus bring their form closer to reality. For example, such a raised eyebrow or a wink is written directly into the metaverse.

Where the headset falters

But now to the most important part, or why Quest Pro is often referred to as already mentioned polished misery. Fans have several reasons for this. Many of them pause, for example, over used displays. Although this headset targets more demanding users and falls into the high-end category, it still offers displays using relatively outdated LCD panels. Better results are achieved with the help of local dimming, but even this is not enough for the display to compete with, for example, OLED or Micro-LED screens. This is just something that is expected above all from Apple. He has been working on the development of his own AR/VR headset for a long time, which should be based on significantly better OLED/Micro-LED displays with an even higher resolution.

We can also dwell on the chipset itself. Although Meta promises a 50% higher performance than the Oculus Quest 2 offers, it is necessary to realize a rather fundamental difference. Both headsets fall into completely opposite categories. While the Quest Pro is supposed to be high-end, the Oculus Quest 2 is an entry-level model. In this direction, it is appropriate to ask a fundamental question. Will that 50% be enough? But the answer will come only through practical testing. If we add the astronomical price to all of this, then it is more or less clear that the headset will not have such a big target again. On the other hand, even though $1500 translates to nearly 38 crowns, it is still a high-end product. According to various leaks and speculations, the AR/VR headset from Apple is supposed to cost even 2 to 3 thousand dollars, i.e. up to 76 thousand crowns. This makes us wonder if the price of Meta Quest Pro is really that high.
