Try to imagine for a moment that you are lying outside in the garden in the summer and there is a beautiful starry sky in front of you. Your significant other will ask you in a romantic moment if you know what this star or constellation is. If you don't have astronomy as a profession or a hobby, it will be difficult for you to know what constellation it is. So at that moment, you don't hesitate to reach into your pocket for your iPhone and simply launch the Star Walk app. It will offer you much more than just the name of the constellation. In a clean and simple environment, it projects the current starry sky exactly as you see it from where you are currently standing.

Not only the current position of the stars, but also constellations, planets, satellites, meteorites and many other objects that you can find in the sky are projected on the display of your iOS device. Star Walk works with your device's motion sensor and, together with GPS location, always displays the current starry sky from where you are standing. It is therefore very pleasant to watch a swarm of meteorites or beautiful constellations just passing by. You can see the constellation itself in a great graphic form, which will show you all the details of the given constellation. The developers state that the application can currently display more than 20 objects. I have personally tried several similar apps, both free and paid, and none of them offered me as many options and features as Star Walk.

We scan the sky

As soon as you start the application, you will immediately see the starry sky, which rotates and changes according to how you move your iPhone or iPad. On the left you have a choice of several color versions of the application and on the right there is an icon for augmented reality (augmented reality). By starting it, the display will show the current image, complete with the starry sky, including all functions. This feature is very effective especially at night, when you can see the sky you see, including all the objects from the app.

In the application menu in the right corner you will find other options and functions such as a calendar, thanks to which you can find out which star objects you can see on selected days. Sky Live will display all planets including important time data, phases of individual objects and much more information. In the gallery every day you will find the so-called picture of the day and other interesting photos of the starry sky.

A very effective function of Star Walk is the Time Machine, where you can view the entire sky in a time interval using the timeline, which you can speed up, slow down or stop at a selected moment. You will simply see the complete transformation of the entire sky.

During stargazing, Star Walk will play pleasant background music, which further underlines the great graphic design of the application. Of course, all objects have their labels, and when you zoom in, you can click on the given object to view more detailed information (description of the given object, photo, coordinates, etc.). Of course, Star Walk offers a search option, so if you are looking for a specific object, you can easily find it by entering the name.

A minor disadvantage of the application can only be the fact that the labels of the constellations and planets are only in English. Otherwise, however, Star Walk is the perfect addition to any star and sky fan. The presence of the Star Walk in Apple's promotional video titled Powerful. However, the application is not available in a universal version, for iPhone and iPad you have to buy Star Walk separately, each time for 2,69 euros. It can be interesting to connect an iOS device to an Apple TV and then project the entire sky, for example, onto the wall of the living room. Then Star Walk can absorb you even more.
