A new programming language Swift was one of the biggest surprises of last year's WWDC, where Apple focused on developers as much as possible. But it didn't take them too long to master programming applications in a new language, as the latest surveys have shown. Swift enjoys significant popularity after six months.

Ranking of the most popular programming languages from RedMonk had Swift in the 2014th place in the third quarter of 68, just a quarter of a year later, the apple language has already jumped to the 22nd position, and it can be expected that other iOS application developers will also switch to it.

Commenting on the latest results, RedMonk said the rapid growth in interest in Swift is completely unprecedented. So far, five to ten places have been considered a significant increase, and the closer you are to the top twenty, the more difficult it is to climb higher. Swfit managed to jump forty-six places in a few months.

For comparison, we can mention the programming language Go, which Google introduced in 2009, but until now it is around the 20th place.

It's also important to mention that RedMonk only collects data from two of the most popular developer portals, GitHub and StackOverflow, which means it's not general data from all developers. However, even so, the numbers mentioned above give at least an approximate idea of the popularity and use of individual programming languages.

In the top ten of the ranking are, for example, JavaScript, Java, PHP, Python, C#, C++, Ruby, CSS and C. High ahead of Swift is also Objective-C, whose language from Apple is a potential successor.
