Downloading YouTube videos for offline viewing is something that almost everyone probably does - it's just that no one talks about it. After years, YouTube has finally decided to make this feature fully official for users and is slowly but surely rolling it out to more and more countries, as well as the new YouTube Go app.
No data? No problem.
Everyone has probably experienced a situation when they wanted to watch a video on YouTube, but could not play it on the go due to a limited amount of data, or someone would simply like to have their favorite videos saved offline. Until now, downloading YouTube videos for offline viewing was only possible with the help of third-party apps and websites, but fortunately, YouTube has recently started making this feature available to users in select regions.
The number of countries where YouTube videos are now officially allowed to download has reached 125 as of today, which is a really impressive increase from the original number of 16. It looks like these are the same countries whose residents can download the brand new "lite" YouTube Go app.
That's the end of the list of good news for now - the bad news is that on list countries where you can download from YouTube, the Czech Republic has not yet been discovered.
Lightweight YouTube
Another novelty is the release of a completely new application called YouTube Go. This is primarily intended for locations with poorer internet connectivity and allows users to download videos for offline viewing or, for example, local sharing of recorded videos using the device-to-device system. Among the features offered by YouTube Go, the ability to stream and download videos in higher quality has gradually been added. Initially, YouTube Go was only available for download in a handful of selected countries, but the number of countries has gradually grown to 130.
On the home page of the YouTube Go app, users can find "trending" and popular videos from the area where they live. Thanks to the application, users also have the possibility of better access to personalized content.
Even here, however, there are still a few flies: the YouTube Go application is currently limited to the Android platform, and moreover, it only expands to countries with limited access to mobile data. Google has not yet announced whether residents of other countries will be able to download the application.
Downloading a video from YT has not been a problem for years. Either I use a downloader (like in Mozilla Video Downloadhelper), or I put this before the URL of the video (without quotes and with dots and slashes instead of words):
"http:SLASHENBOOTsavefromBOOTnetSLASH#="
When I want to download for free, I select "But if you're okay with slower download speed and limitations on file formats, feel free to download video in browser"
I used to just type "ss" directly in front of the video URL and download, but now I can't.
It has been much easier for a long time. All you have to do is delete the last three letters "ube" from the current address (youtube name), press enter and after loading a new page you can choose whether you want to download the video or just the audio in mp3 format. Whoever pays gets higher quality. On iOS, I use the iCab Mobile app to download.
Cool, what can you do to edit mp3 on MacOS X?
