Almost everyone knows what Twitter is and what it actually serves. For those of you who don't have Twitter and don't know much about it yet, a colleague wrote an article about a year ago Five reasons to use Twitter. I will not go into more detail about the essence and function of this social network in my article and will go straight to the point.

Among other things, Twitter differs from Facebook in that, in addition to the official application for viewing this network, there are many alternative tools from third-party developers. There are really tons of apps for using Twitter in the App Store, but over time some of them have gained more popularity than others. So today we will look at a comparison of the few most successful examples, show the differences between them and find out why it is even worth considering an alternative, when the official Twitter application is not so bad.

Twitter (Official App)

The official Twitter application has come a long way in recent times and in many ways has caught up with its alternative counterparts. For example, Twitter already displays image previews in the timeline and can also send a given tweet or linked article to the reading list in Safari.

However, the application still lacks other, rather key functions. Official Twitter doesn't support background updates, can't sync timeline position between devices, or use URL shorteners. Can't even block hashtags.

Another big ailment of the official Twitter application is the fact that the user is bothered by advertising. Although it is not a prominent advertising banner, the user's timeline is simply scattered with advertising tweets that cannot be avoided. In addition, the application is sometimes "overpaid" and the content is pushed and forced on the user too much for my taste. The experience of browsing the social network is then not as clean and undisturbed.

The advantage of the application is that it is completely free, even in a universal version for both iPhone and iPad. Tandem is also complemented by a very similar version for Mac, which, however, suffers from the same ailments and functional deficiencies.

Echophone Pro for Twitter

One of the long established and popular alternatives is Echofon. It has already been updated to a version in the style of iOS 7 some time ago, so it fits into the new system visually and functionally. There are no push notifications, background updates (when you turn on the application, loaded tweets are already waiting for you) or other advanced functions.

Echofon will offer the option of changing the font size, different color schemes and, for example, alternative services for later reading (Pocket, Instapaper, Readability) or the popular URL shortener bit.ly. Individual users and hashtags can also be blocked in Echofon. A rather unique feature is the search for tweets based on your location. However, one major shortcoming is the absence of Tweet Marker - a service that synchronizes the progress of reading the timeline of tweets between devices.

Echofon is also a universal application, while the full version can be purchased in the App Store for a not entirely friendly 4,49 euros. There is also a free version with banner ads.

Osfoora 2 for Twitter

Another recently updated matador among Twitter apps is Osfoora. After the update associated with the arrival of iOS 7, it can boast above all a simple, clean design, incredible speed and pleasant simplicity. Despite its simplicity, however, Osfoora offers many interesting functions and settings.

Osfoora can change the font size and shape of avatars, so you can adjust the appearance of your timeline to some extent to your own image. There is also the possibility of using alternative reading lists, the possibility of synchronization via Tweet Marker or the use of a mobilizer for easy reading of articles referenced in tweets. The timeline update also works reliably in the background. It is also possible to block individual users and hashtags.

However, a big disadvantage is the absence of push notifications, Osfoora simply does not have them. Some may be slightly outraged by the price of 2,69 euros, because the competition is usually cheaper, although it often offers a universal application (Osfoora is only for iPhone) and the mentioned push notifications.

[appbox appstore 7eetilus for Twitter

A new and rather interesting application is Tweetilus from the Czech developer Petr Pavlík. It came into the world only after the publication of iOS 7 and is designed directly for this system. The app supports background updates, but that's where its more advanced features end, and unfortunately Tweetilus can't even push notifications. However, the purpose of the application is different.

The application does not offer any setting options at all and is focused purely on fast and effective delivery of content. Tweetilus is mainly focused on images that are not displayed in a small preview, but over a large part of the iPhone screen.

Tweetilus is also an iPhone-only application and costs 1,79 euros in the App Store.

Tw=”ltr”>The exact opposite of the previous application is Tweetlogix. This application is really "inflated" with various setting options, and it will send you tweets simply, simply and without general invention. When it comes to customizing the look, Tweetlogix offers three color schemes as well as options to change the font.

In the application, you can choose between different URL shorteners, many reading lists and different mobilizers. Tweetlogix can also sync in the background, supports Tweet Marker, but not push notifications. There are various filters, tweet lists and various blocks available.

The application is universal and can be downloaded from the App Store for 2,69 euros.

Tweetbot 3 for Twitter

Tweetbot avatar because this application is a real legend and a shining star among Twitter clients. After updating to version 3, Tweetbot is already fully adapted to iOS 7 and modern trends associated with this system (background application update).

Tweetbot doesn't lack any of the advanced features listed above, and it's really hard to find any flaws. Tweetbot, on the other hand, offers something extra and completely overshadows its competitors by submitting tweets.

In addition to superior functions, great design and convenient gesture control, Tweetbot offers, for example, a night mode or a special "media timeline". This is a special display method that filters out only tweets containing an image or video for you, while elegantly displaying these media files practically on the entire screen.

Another rather unique function is the ability to block clients of other applications. For example, you can clean your timeline of all posts from Foursquare, Yelp, Waze, various sports applications and the like.

A slight disadvantage of Tweetbot can be the higher price (4,49 euros) and the fact that it is an iPhone-only application. There is an iPad variant, but it is paid separately and has not yet been updated and adapted for iOS 7. Tweetbot is also great on Mac.

Twitterrific 5 for Twitter

The only real keetbot is Twitterrific. It does not lag behind in terms of functionality and, on the contrary, offers an even more pleasant user environment. Compared to Tweetbot, it only lacks the "media timeline" mentioned above. Overall, it's a bit simpler, but it doesn't lack any essential functionality.

Twitterrific offers the same advanced features, is just as reliable, and even has more customization options than Tweetbot (font, line spacing, etc.). There is also a night mode, which is much gentler on the eyes in the dark. This is a very nimble application that quickly loads the timeline and very quickly opens images associated with tweets. You will also be pleased with the sophisticated gesture control or, for example, distinguishing individual notifications with a special icon that makes their list on the locked screen clearer.

Twitterrific also boasts faster user support and a friendlier pricing policy. The universal Twitterrific 5 for Twitter can be purchased on the App Store for 2,69 euros.
