The cheapest and at the same time the most practical way to legally watch a huge amount of audiovisual content are streaming services. Although there are still fewer of them in the Czech Republic than abroad, film fans still have plenty to choose from. The text of this article will be devoted to services that will provide you with a lot of interesting content for a relatively low fee.

Netflix
An extensive library of content, excellently functioning applications for almost all major platforms and over 100 million subscribers - these are milestones that Netflix has already overcome some time ago. Why not, when here you will find genres from children's films to comedies to horror films that will send chills down your spine. In addition to the exclusive content created under the wings of Netflix, which includes, for example, The Witcher, Stranger Things or Black Mirror, you can watch many other films and series from third-party creators - in particular, this platform accommodated over 5000 titles, including its originals. You install Netflix on iPhone, iPad, Mac, Apple TV, launch it via a web browser, other supported platforms include Android, Windows and most smart TVs.
The price plan then consists of three tariffs – Basic, Standard and Premium, with the cheapest costing CZK 199 per month, you can play and download content on it on one device, and the image resolution quality ranges between 480p and 720p. The medium plan costs CZK 259 per month, you can reach Full HD (1080p) in quality, and you can watch and download content on up to two devices. Premium will cost you CZK 319, with this tariff you can stream and download on four devices at the same time, and in ideal conditions the resolution stops at Ultra HD (4K). It's also worth mentioning that you have a 30-day free trial after your first activation, which is quite a long time to make a decision. Up to 5 profiles can be assigned to one account, including a children's profile, so everyone can watch their favorite titles undisturbed without interfering with the privacy of others. Finally, I will please the visually impaired readers, Netflix has an English audio commentary for many movies and series, which in my experience is really well done, so you won't miss any important part.

HBO GO
Another platform for streaming movies and series is HBO GO, and it must be said that apart from the functionality of the application, we can hardly fault it. Although there are significantly fewer films compared to Netflix, the quality is definitely not lacking - quite the opposite. It is enough if I tell you that in the video library you can watch, for example, the popular exciting series Game of Thrones, or the equally high-quality work Chernobyl. However, it is significantly worse with the functionality of applications. Both the web interface and programs for smartphones and televisions have not taken much clarity, and you still cannot download content for offline viewing to iOS devices. You have a week to try out HBO GO, so really set aside at least a few days when you have time before the trial period. You will then be charged 159 CZK per month, which is significantly less than in the case of Netflix. The resolution stops at Full HD, which is not the highest, but it is plenty enough for ordinary users. Most of the available films boast Czech dubbing or at least subtitles, so even those who do not know the English language will find something to their liking.
Amazon Prime Video
At the outset, I would like to point out that this service is not worthwhile for those who are not very fond of the English language - the localization of individual images is rather weak compared to the competition, even though Amazon is moving forward. On the other hand, what makes the service interesting is the low price compared to the competition, 79 CZK per month is really not much. In addition, you can play and download content on up to three devices at the same time, and there is no shortage of usability on a wide range of products – you can enjoy Prime Video on iPhone, iPad, Android, in a web browser and on most smart TVs. Interesting films that we should pick from Amazon's production are, for example, the series The Boys, The Grand Tour or Bosch, and works from third-party producers are also excluded from the menu. Apple TV +
The last application that we must not leave out is Apple TV+. It is the youngest of all available services, but there have already been many articles about it, and it cannot be said that these are positive texts. As in everything, Apple goes its own way and bets only on films and series from its own production. It wouldn't matter so much at the beginning, Ted Lasso, Servant, The Morning Show or See are interesting pieces, but compared to other competitors, the offer in terms of the number of series and films is weak. The fact that you get a year's worth of service for free when you buy a new iPhone, iPad, Mac or Apple TV doesn't change its popularity. Users simply won't pay for a few series, even though they are all in 4K, the price is only CZK 139, and you can share the subscription with a family of up to six. But in order not to criticize, Apple has hired movie stars under its wing, so the titles you watch will not disappoint you. You would look for Czech dubbing in vain, but there are subtitles for all series and films, and thanks to the audio commentary and subtitles for the deaf, everyone can fully enjoy the programs. In addition to the iPhone, iPad, Mac and Apple TV, the works can also be played on some smart TVs, and the content can also be accessed via the web interface.
