Detail informations

One of the main innovations that you can use in Spotlight from macOS Ventura is definitely the display of detailed information about some results. Apple specifically states that this new feature is supported for contacts, actors, musicians, movies, series and sports, but I personally managed to use it only for contacts - maybe we will see an extension in the future. To view detailed information about a contact, you just need to they wrote a name in Spotlight, for example Vratislav Holub, and then pressed Enter.

File previews

Searching for files in Spotlight has become much easier in macOS Ventura with the ability to display previews for most file types. This can be useful, for example, when you are looking for a file among several results and want to go through them all quickly and easily. If you would like to see a preview of a file, that's enough in Spotlight, use the arrows to and then press space bar.

File path

You've probably found yourself in a situation in Spotlight where you found a file, but you didn't want to open it directly, but the folder it's in, or at least show the location. This function has been available in Spotlight for a long time, however, in macOS Ventura, the path to the file is now displayed directly in the line with the marked file. To display the path to the file is enough navigate to a specific file with the arrows, and then hold the key command.

So-called quick actions have also been newly added to Spotlight in macOS Ventura, thanks to which it is possible to quickly and easily launch an action and possibly also shortcuts. Several quick actions are natively prepared that you can use right away, for example to start a timer. To try this quick shortcut, simply type into Spotlight start the timer, and then pressed a key Enter. Subsequently, an interface will appear where you just need to set the minute and start it.

Advanced transfers

As I mentioned in the introduction, you can also convert units and currencies in Spotlight, which is definitely useful and I have personally been using this gadget for several years. While in older versions of macOS, after entering a value, only one conversion was displayed directly in the line, now you can display a window with multiple conversions. It's nothing complicated, you just have to entered a specific value into Spotlight, then they pressed the down arrow which will mark the transfer, and then tap on space bar.
