Already in April of this year, Spotify announced that it wanted to take on Apple's new podcast platform with a subscription to special episodes with its own solution that would offer creators a subscription to their shows. The feature was originally launched only for selected creators, and only in the US. In August, Spotify announced that it was expanding the platform to all American podcasters and is now finally expanding to the whole world.

In addition to the US, podcasters can also offer premium content to countries such as Australia, New Zealand, Hong Kong, Singapore, Belgium, Bulgaria, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, Greece, Ireland, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland and the United Kingdom, with the list expanding to include Canada, Germany, Austria and France next week.

Favorable pricing policy

Podcast creators now have a growing list where they can offer their bonus episodes for subscription to their listeners. The biggest platforms are, of course, Apple Podcasts, but also Patreon, which profited from its model even before the Apple solution. Of course, the set pricing is also relatively important.

Spotify has said it won't take any commission from creators for podcast subscriptions for the first two years of the service, which it's obviously doing mainly to gain some market share. From 2023 onwards, the commission will be 5% of the price, which is, for example, compared to Apple, which takes 30%, still practically a pittance. It is also worth mentioning that the paid podcast subscription is independent of the Spotify Premium subscription and its amount is determined by the creator himself.

Subscribe to the podcast

The point of the subscription is, of course, that with your payment you support the creators, who in return for your finances will provide you with exclusive content in the form of bonus material. You will find out which episodes are paid for lock symbol. You can subscribe by going to the show's page and you can already find the subscription link in its description.

If you subscribe to paid podcasts, the payment will automatically renew at the end of the subscription period, unless you cancel it before the renewal date. Spotify then provides a link to its cancellation in the monthly e-mail.
