We have several music streaming services available in the Czech Republic. Spotify is one of the most popular, for many people it is a better option than Apple Music or Google Play Music. If you're new to Spotify, or thinking about making the switch, today's article might be useful for you. We will take a closer look at the basics of building your own music library, thanks to which you will be able to start using Spotify to the fullest.

First of all, you should start building your own library of favorite authors, albums and songs. A fairly large part of Spotify uses this data to generate new playlists for you, search for new songs and generally recommend other content that you might like. The more you listen, the better the service will be at offering music you like.

If you've switched from Apple Music, you may find adding songs or albums to your library a bit inconsistent. Spotify gives greater priority to song searches and playlists. Albums are added to the library by tapping the heart icon. Adding a song to your library is done by tapping the heart again. But in this case, the song will be added to the playlist called "Songs you like". Unfortunately, albums that have been saved to the library are not displayed in this playlist. If you want to have all the songs from the album in the "Songs you like" playlist, tap the three dots in the top right and select "Like all songs" at the very bottom.

And even if the library management is not the strongest point of this service, the playlists created directly by Spotify or the community make up for it a lot. Creating your own playlists and then sharing them is easy. You can find a large number of playlists - they are divided according to mood and genre. If you prefer community playlists, just search directly in spotify or look on the internet. Importing into the account is also simple - click on the three dots on the playlist overview and select "Save to collection Your library".

The last significant part of the playback is the "Made for You" section. At first, you won't see many items here, but gradually, as you listen to more music, playlists will appear just for you. Every Monday, you'll get "Discover Weekly," a special playlist generated based on what you're listening to. It changes every Monday, so be sure to save the songs you like. Friday's "Release Radar" playlist is in a similar vein. The difference is that only newly released songs appear in it. After a certain period of time, the playlists "All the time" and "Old acquaintances" will be added to this section. Once a year you can also look forward to statistics and a special playlist "Your best songs".

Finally, in the form of a list, we will review the most important items in the settings and what they are for:

  • Data Saver – A mobile data saver that activates low quality music playback and disables the Canvas feature. If you often play music on data, it is better to have the saver active. In addition, you can download frequently listened songs/albums/playlists offline in higher quality.
  • Offline mode – Unfortunately, there is no way to activate offline mode faster. You always have to go through the settings of the application.
  • AutoPlay – If you do not want the songs to start playing automatically after the end of the album or playlist, turn off this function.
  • Canvas – These are various animations and other visual materials. They are unimportant directly for listening, they just draw more mobile data.
  • Connect to device – It allows you to quickly change the device on which the music will be played and at the same time thanks to it you can control Spotify from your phone, for example, even if it is played through the Mac application.
  • Shown in the car – If you have a car with bluetooth, here you can activate a special mode after connecting your phone.
  • Private session – If you don't want your friends to see what you're listening to, just activate this feature.
  • Music quality – Simple quality settings for streaming as well as downloaded music. It can ideally be combined with a data saver.
  • Clear cache – If you have a problem with phone space and don't want to delete downloaded songs and albums one by one, you can delete them all via this button.
