According to reports on the Internet, it seems that the developers of the Spotify application have decided to add a new feature that will allow control by voice commands. According to the first information, it seems that this new feature is available only to a small group of users/testers, but it can be expected that this circle will expand over time. In this way, Spotify responds to the trend of recent months, set in this regard by Amazon with its Alexa, Google with its Home service, and now Apple with HomePod and Siri.

So far, the new voice control has only basic functions, which include, for example, searching for your favorite artists, specific albums or individual songs. Voice control can also be used to select and play playlists. According to the first images from those who are testing this new feature, it looks like voice control is activated by clicking on the newly placed icon. Initiation is therefore manual.

At the moment, voice commands only support English, it is not yet clear how it will be extended to other languages. According to the first reports, the new system works relatively quickly and reliably. Reactions are said to be roughly as fast as in the case of Siri in the HomePod speaker. Some minor errors were found in the recognition of individual commands, but it was said to be nothing major.

Voice commands are said to only be usable for finding and playing music files found in Spotify's library. More general questions (such as "what are the Beatles") are not answered by the app - it's not an intelligent assistant, it's just the ability to process basic voice commands. In recent weeks, there have been rumors that Spotify is also preparing to launch a new wireless speaker that would compete with the HomePod and other established products. Support for voice control would therefore be a logical extension of the capabilities of this popular platform. However, the truth is in the stars.
