Spotify has decided to offer iPhone and iPad users a relatively small but very welcome user interface change. For navigation, the so-called hamburger menu used until now will be replaced by the classic bottom bar, which we know from, for example, default iOS applications.

A Swedish music streaming service that is fighting for the favor of users especially with Apple Music, is rolling out the change gradually, but all subscribers and free music listeners should see it in the coming weeks and months.

The new navigation bar at the bottom of the screen should have only positive effects, and the main one is undoubtedly the easier control of the Spotify application. The existing hamburger menu, which is so called because of the button made up of three lines, is mainly used on Androids, and on iOS developers tend to avoid it.

When the user wanted to display the menu, he had to click with his finger on the button located at the top left, which, for example, is very difficult to reach on large iPhones. The swipe gesture also works to make the menu easier to view, but the new navigation bar at the bottom makes everything even easier. Also thanks to the fact that especially less experienced users are used to such a system from other applications, including Apple Music.

The user now has the entire offer constantly in view and it is also easier to reach. At Spotify, they found that with such a navigation element, the user's interactivity with the buttons in the menu increases by 30 percent, which is good for the service and the user himself. Much more, for example, uses the Home tab, where all music "to be discovered" resides.

Spotify is rolling out the change first in the United States, Great Britain, Germany, Austria and Sweden, and plans to expand it to other countries and platforms in the coming months. This means that the hamburger menu will also disappear from Android.
