The battle between the two biggest music streaming services continues and subscriber numbers are growing. It's been a few weeks since we informed you that Apple Music managed to surpass the 40 million paying users mark. Competing Spotify also announced today that it has surpassed the new goal, which is significantly better than Apple Music.

Spotify has held its first conference call with shareholders since it went public earlier this year. It was during this event that shareholders and the public were able to learn some more fundamental news regarding the future direction of the company. During the call, company representatives confirmed the upward trend in the number of subscribers and the recent conquest of the 75 million mark.

The last time Spotify reported subscriber numbers was in February of this year, when Spotify reported 71 million paying customers. So the growth is an average of 2 million new users per month, which is very similar to what Apple boasts about Apple Music.

As for Spotify's non-paying users, there are roughly 170 million. About 100 million users use the trial version of the Premium account. Last week, Spotify introduced changes that primarily affect non-paying users. Their accounts have undergone major changes that in many ways add features that were previously only available to those who pay for the service. The company is thus trying to meet these users and, with the help of these innovations, convince them to start paying for a Premium account, which is completely unlimited and enables even more exclusive functions.
