Yesterday we saw a somewhat controversial (or rather not very interesting) presentation of new products. At this year's first keynote, Apple showed only the new 9,7″ iPad, some accessories and a lot of software aimed at students, teachers and the school environment in general. With the new iPad came new accessories, this time from Logitech (which is known as a major manufacturer of computer peripherals). Both a multifunctional cover with a keyboard and a similar Apple Pencil are now available. However, it has one catch, as it only works with the iPad introduced yesterday.

The case introduced yesterday is called the Logitech Rugged Combo 2 ($99), and as the name suggests, it is a case that should have significant protective features. In addition to its robustness and durability, it also offers a silent keyboard, integrated stand and holder for Apple Pencil or the previously mentioned stylus directly from Logitech.

It's called the Logitech Crayon and will sell for $49, roughly half of what Apple charges for the Apple Pencil. The Logitech Crayon takes the form of a crayon (wax stick, if you will) and should offer most of the important features that the Apple Pencil has (the technology and hardware are basically the same). That is, both tilt sensors and a super-fast response and a very precise tip. The only thing that is not here is sensing the level of pressure on the tip.

Logitech Crayon will be supported by a large number of applications right from the start, such as the newly updated iWork and applications such as Pages, Numbers and Keynote. Unlike the Apple Pencil, the Crayon does not have the shape of a roller, so users will not have it roll off the table and possibly get damaged by falling to the ground. Duration on one charge should be around eight hours.

The newly released accessory from Logitech will be available by the summer of this year. The problem may be that it will only work with the new iPad, due to the proprietary connection method. You can't connect older iPads to the keyboard case, just like the Logitech Crayon won't work on one of the older iPad Pros.
