This year belongs to artificial intelligence. There have been many tools that build on it, and how to regulate it so that it doesn't go over our heads has been discussed for just as long. If we look at technology manufacturers, especially smartphones, Google is the clear leader here. But we already know the statements of Apple or Samsung.

As soon as something new appears, it is almost immediately decided when Apple will introduce something like that. Even though AI is a very inflected term this year, Apple instead showed the Vision Pro and gave a cursory reference to anything related to artificial intelligence with certain elements of iOS 17. But it didn't reveal anything more interesting. In contrast, Google's Pixel 8 relies on AI to a greater extent, even with regard to photo editing, which looks intuitive but at the same time really powerful.

Working on it

Then, when Apple CEO Tim Cook was present at some interviews and a question was asked about AI, he practically only mentioned that Apple is counting on it in some way. On Thursday's call with investors to reveal fiscal Q4 2023 results, Cook was asked how Apple is experimenting with generative AI, given that many other tech companies have already launched some AI-based tools. And the answer?

It was no surprise that Cook highlighted many features in Apple devices that are based on artificial intelligence and machine learning, such as the personal voice, fall detection and EKG in the Apple Watch. But more interestingly, when it comes specifically to generative AI tools like ChatGPT, Cook responded that "of course we're working on that." He added that the company wants to build its own generative AI responsibly and that customers will see these technologies become the "heart" of future products.

2024 as the year of generative AI?

According to Bloomberg's Mark Gurman Apple is accelerating the development of AI-based tools and will focus on releasing them with iOS 18 next September. This technology should be implemented in applications such as Apple Music, Xcode and of course Siri. But will it be enough? Google is already showing what AI can do in phones, and then there's Samsung.

He has already announced that he is really working on introducing artificial intelligence into his devices. It will most likely be the first to see the Galaxy S24 series, which the company is supposed to introduce at the end of January 2024. The Korean giant specifically refers to generative artificial intelligence that will work on the device without the need to connect to the Internet. This means that the generative AI used today, for example, by popular conversational platforms such as ChatGPT or Google Bard, will allow Galaxy phone users to access various services using simple commands without the Internet.

Moreover, the Android competition will not be long in coming, as this is being worked on in a big way across companies. This is because new chips make it possible for them, when Qualcomm also counts on AI in its Snapdragon 8 Gen 3. So if we heard a lot in this regard this year, it is certain that we will hear even more next year.
