The arrival of redesigned MacBook Pros was talked about among apple lovers several months before their actual presentation. In the case of the new 14″ and 16″ laptops, the leakers and analysts hit it quite accurately. They were able to accurately reveal a huge increase in performance, the arrival of the Mini LED screen with ProMotion technology, a slight evolution of the design and the return of some ports. Apple specifically bet on good old HDMI, an SD card reader and the new generation of MagSafe, MagSafe 3, which ensures fast charging. Moreover, as is customary, after the presentation itself, even smaller details begin to appear, which there was no space for during the keynote.

Faster SD card reader

As we mentioned above, there has been talk for quite some time about the return of some ports, including the SD card reader. In July, however, more began to appear in apple circles informace. According to a YouTuber named Luke Miani from Apple Track, Apple shouldn't bet on just any SD card reader, but on a high-speed UHS-II type reader. When using a compatible SD card, it supports writing and reading speeds of up to 312 MB/s, while common types can only handle 100 MB/s. Later, speculations even began to appear about the use of the UHS-III type.

It didn't take long and the Cupertino giant confirmed to The Verge magazine that in the case of the new 14″ and 16″ MacBook Pros, it is indeed a UHS-II type SD card reader that allows transfer speeds of up to 312 MB/s. But there is one catch. After all, we outlined this above, meaning that to achieve such a speed, it is of course necessary to have an SD card that supports the UHS-II standard. You can buy such SD cards here. But the drawback may be that such models are only available in 64 GB, 128 GB and 256 GB sizes. However, this is a perfect gadget that will please photographers and video creators in particular. Thanks to this, the transfer of files, in this case photos and videos, is noticeably faster, practically up to three times.

Connectivity improvements

The new MacBook Pros have also noticeably moved forward in the field of connectivity. In any case, this success is not only based on the new SD card reader. The return of the standard HDMI port, which is still widely used today for video and audio transmission in the case of monitors and projectors, also has its share in this. The icing on the cake is, of course, everyone's beloved MagSafe. Its practicality is unquestionable, when all you have to do is bring the cable closer to the connector and it will automatically snap into place via magnets and start charging. Apple has thus significantly improved in this direction. These ports are still supplemented by a trio of Thunderbolt 4 (USB-C) ports and 3,5 mm jack with Hi-Fi support.
