Since we value you, our loyal readers, we decided to make you happy. Together with Synology, we have prepared a competition for you to win one device from this company's product line. Specifically, this is the Synology DS218play device, which we had a three-part review on in our magazine, among other things. If you are interested in more about the device, be sure to click on the links below. All you have to do to win is to answer the competition question and of course hope that your answer is the best.
In this competition, we are giving one of you a Synology DS218play NAS station worth 6 crowns.
How to get involved?
Write us in the comments the answer to the contest question, which reads as follows: If you won the Synology DS218play, what would you use it for? You will certainly find inspiration in our reviews this device.
You can enter the competition until midnight on Friday (July 29, 6). We will then pick one winner on Saturday. We will mail the prize to the winner.
PS: Don't forget to turn on messaging (if you haven't) so we can contact you if you win. Also check "Message Requests".
I would like to use the Synology NAS for photo sharing and of course timemachine backup.
I would use it for a camera system :-)
Home document sharing
Super useful for the home, as the main storage for music, movies, photos, documents with the possibility of sharing at home and outside the home. This is exactly what I miss at home :-)
Watching video via Apple TV, backups, remote access from work ;)
Multimedia center at home and on the go
Monitoring knowledge, backups, emails, remote access.
I would use Synology's NAS for sharing multimedia over the network, for Timechne server, VPN and FTP server.
I think it would work well as a shared photo drive for friends...
Well, as a multimedia center backup a photo and try it out a bit, how does it all work? I always wanted to buy Sitno, but I didn't have the money for it?
I would definitely use it to back up photos from all the devices we have at home, I would try the download station and slowly move everything from the WD MY Cloud to the 218... and the backup of cloud services... Google Drive, Dropbox, etc... DLNA... for movies.. although I was considering the 918, but the 218 is great for getting to know the brand.
As backup and certainly for calculations of mathematical models in chemical engineering -)
We use the Synology NAS to share videos and photos at home.
Share my photos and videos with my whole family on the go + keep all files safe. They are the most valuable thing a person has, apart from the people around him, of course, right?
Backing up iMac and macbook, sharing vacation photos with the whole family, multimedia center. Remote access to private things, super DLNA, which we would use for TV almost every night :-)
First of all, I would use it for photos and sharing them with the possibility to open, edit, add to them anywhere, etc. And then gradually for everything that would be useful to connect to the NAS in and outside the home.
I have been thinking about NAS for a long time and I read various reviews and discussions to choose the most suitable one for me. QNAP and Synology are in the final selection. Since my colleague has personal experience with Synology and is very satisfied with the NAS, I will probably choose this brand. The main use I see is that I have no central data storage or backup network device, except for an external USB drive and a cloud service, which is not very convenient for me. I need a NAS to share private photos and videos with my kids and family, to back up my laptop, phone. The children will certainly like to watch fairy tales directly from the NAS, and I will enjoy watching movies, the Synology DS218play is perfect for that. I have no personal experience with NAS, but I believe that I can fully use it for my needs and that I will be satisfied with such a device for a long time.
For videos, of course, but also as an MQTT server for HomeBridge - so that I can have a range of my own intelligent accessories in Homekit.
We would like to use NASka to back up and share family photos and videos. Unfortunately, not every member has access to all of our family multimedia yet. :-)
As a data repository of documents and media files in the municipal school.
A backup of photos because there are more and more of those photos with the child. And therefore I will also save money since I don't have to pay for more space on iCloud
Series backup <3
Would I store all the articles from the apple store on it?
Would I use it as home multimedia storage and device backup?
I would use it for TimeMachine, photo backup and VPN server.
My wife would probably be most happy with Synology, because finally all the videos and photos would be in one place and safe.
For backing up photos, videos. Stream fairy tales and movies to Apple TV. Time Machine backup. And for testing. I would like to try all DSM options (FTP, webserver, virtualization).
With the Play model, I would definitely like to try streaming and converting from different formats to different devices (Apple TV, direct to TV, iPhone, iPad, MAC).
At the same time, I would like to check how WOL works and then how much such a station eats, I find that quite interesting.
I would see the main use for photo and video backups. Anyway, I would also like to start Timemachine for MAC.
And if the NAS already has WOL, I would like to try a shared address book for MacOS, to which I would direct my entire iTunes library on the MAC, so I could throw away the external drive and finally have a MAC a little more free ;-). I've already come across a method where before opening iTunes it checks if the network drive is available, so the only thing stopping me is the missing Synology NAS :-D.
I would use the storage for backing up photos, but also for playing movies in high resolution
For me, definitely for video streaming and data backup.
I would use the NAS station as storage and a player for fairy tales for my little son Marťásk. :-)
I would definitely use the Synology NAS for Time Machine backups so that in case of problems I could get the MacBook back up and running as soon as possible and thanks to this I could quickly return to reading great articles on Jablíčkář.cz so that I didn't miss anything. :-)
I would use it for sharing and backing up photos, as well as playing movies and playing with DSM options.
I would use the NAS for backups via TimeMachine and as a storage and backup for all photos.
It's the perfect size. I'd put the double bed in the middle with it so it doesn't creak.
Would I give it to my girlfriend?
Since I'm a graphic designer and photographer, I'm working as a backup :)
I would use the NAS station to back up data and photos, but also as storage for movies and music
The greatest security in our country requires a dog. He has bones. Lots of bones. And tennis shoes too. He has even more of them. And then he's also paranoid. He lives in constant fear that someone will take all his bones and tennis shoes. It is a fact that the dimensions of the Synology DS218play are not much. So two tennis shoes and maybe a couple of bones, if I have the handle, I'll stuff a turkey in there too. Just misery. And encrypt sneakers… hergot, has anyone ever tried that? But we would like to try it differently. When our children have already learned to go out virtually, even if it is true, on the way there they wash various elves and other monsters, a dog could also learn to store virtual bones. In other words, we would see it like this: 2x5TB, CoreStorage volume, extended Mac OS (journaled, encrypted), the first quarter of the beef clusters, the second pork, and the rest of the standard Wilson US Open 3. That might be enough for a start. Or not? :-)

I would use Naska as an online backup of my devices and also as a surveillance server for the cameras I have installed for security :)
I would give it to my brother and connect it to my ds216+II with some utility from Synology. I've been telling him to buy it for two years now and it would make a nice wedding present this Saturday :) I use DS Photo and they love it
I would replace this DS with an old cabinet (from my grandmother), which is full of original VHS, DVDs, even BLU-RAY carriers, Kaji Gott records, photo albums from family trips and meetings, photos from vacations, important documents for a favorite financial office ( greetings Babis) and work matters... I am devoting the gained space to an apple tree where I will grow apples and I will say to myself what an amazing apple grower I am and every time I bite into a grown apple I will be reminded of how much space I have saved thanks to you ;)
I would use the NAS to back up all devices and files, and also as a multimedia center where all movies and series would be. I would consider buying cameras that would be connected to the NAS
Hurrah!! I can finally throw away floppy disks, zips, VHS, CDs, DVDs, Blu-rays and I will finally have all the PORN in one place :)
He would then help several people in their work and entertainment. Would brighten up some gray days :) and keep the extended family in touch. He could secure the residence through cameras. It would serve to backup and share a bunch of memories in the form of home video and photos. It would completely back up my devices and also free up their carefully guarded memory space. They put the issue of data security in my hands and I no longer have to entrust myself to others. I devour your articles, the NAS review went well.
I would make this NAS the main multimedia center of the home, backup mac, iphone…..
I only left the old NAS for photos and it wouldn't run 24H
I have been planning the purchase for a long time, my idea is a complete computer backup (Timemachine and Win), a backup of several gigabytes of photos, the source of my film library.
I would use the NAS station to store photos and videos from my digital camera and iPad - I now have it stored on DVDs, external drives and tapes. I would share it with a laptop and PC as a multimedia center and connect it to the home LAN via a router to store documents electronically.
I have been wanting to buy a NAS for a year or two, the final impulse was given by the new MB Pro, which I only have in the 128GB variant (oh yes, I know... :) ) and therefore I would use the NAS as a central data storage, a backup of unnecessary data, a time machine backup, I would also like to access it externally from anywhere so that I don't have to have all the data physically with me all the time, however, for it to be always available to me, cloud services do not have the required capacity. I would also like to stream video files from it to the TV. Thank you O :)
I would use it for backup and home photo and video streaming and data storage.
The Synology NAS is the perfect minicomputer. I would back it up with Time Machine, use it as a cloud for large amounts of photos and MP3s that don't fit in a Mac with a limited SSD. I would run a mini website and a mini server for downloading data on it. In a nutshell, it would replace a small HDD in a Mac, it would act as a low-resource server, and it would back up a MAC, iPhone and iPad. Thanks for your articles, it's great!
photo, video (stream around the home), backup. Maybe a web server with WordPress
I would like a NAS mainly because of a friend who lately has been talking about nothing but the benefits of such storage. And I want to talk about other things with my partner :D
I would use the NAS for backup so that it never happens to me again that I accidentally delete photos that are important.
Now I have everything backed up and with a NAS I would have it all together.
Then I would use it to stream videos and the overall backup of all the devices I have at home.
Norbert is zero. He was, is and always will be. But I need Norbert. When I need Norbert the most, I can never find him. Of course. Norbert just gets lost. Regularly. I look for Norbert very often. I know it has to be somewhere. It is stitched in one of the many Totally Hidden Flats. You can imagine how such a search for Norbert looks like. It's often half a day before you go through all the Completely Hidden Apartments, and if you're lucky, I'll sometimes find Norbert there. Hurrah. But be careful, don't praise the day before the evening. Immediately I find out that, in addition to Norbert, I also need Jasmína. As you may have guessed, Jasmína is number one. She was, is and always will be. So to make a long story short, as in the previous case, I'll crawl through all the Completely Hidden Apartments and if I'm lucky I'll find Jasmína. The afternoon is gone. But the worst part is that every day I need not only Norbert and Jasmína, but also Nikola, Naděžda, Natália, Jarda, Jana, Jindřich and God knows what the names of all those zeros and ones are. Going through all the Totally Hidden Flats is just a tedious and endless job. To get them all under one roof, perhaps in a completely New Alternative Housing Estate, oh my goodness, that would be….
I would use the NAS to back up the data of the State Kindergarten in our village. It wasn't backed up there at all until recently :-). Also for streaming MP3 books to the audio system for children in class for presentations at fairs and other events. I would then move the kindergarten website to it, where I could, with the parent's consent, upload an almost unlimited number of photos and documents compared to commercial web hosting. It's unbelievable how little money small schools have in their budgets for this, and on the other hand, how much I respect IT companies for these services, when they feel that it comes from the state. I provide IT services for this school, which my child also attends, for free and in my free time. I would also take one for myself, but I don't really need it as much as a school. Nice day to all!
Primarily for backup and DLNA.
Definitely for backing up MAC and DLNA. If I win, I'll give someone a DS216play :-)
