Apple cares about the privacy and security of its users. After all, this is no secret, as it proves it practically every year when it implements new functions related to this field in its operating systems. This year is no exception. On the occasion of the WWDC21 conference, a number of other novelties were revealed, thanks to which we will have even more control over privacy.

Email Privacy Protection

The first improvement comes to the native Mail app. A function called Mail Privacy Protection can block so-called invisible pixels that are found in e-mails and serve a single purpose - to collect data about the recipient. Thanks to the novelty, the sender will not be able to find out if and when you opened the e-mail, and at the same time it will take care of hiding your IP address. With this hiding, the sender will not be able to link your profile with your other online activity, or will not be able to use the address to locate you.

Intelligent Tracking Prevention

The Intelligent Tracking Prevention function has been helping to protect the privacy of apple users in the Safari browser for a long time. In particular, it can prevent so-called trackers from tracking your movement. For this, it uses machine learning, thanks to which it is possible to view the given Internet page in a normal way, without blocking trackers interfering with the display of content. Now Apple is taking this feature a step further. Newly, Intelligent Tracking Prevention will also block access to the user's IP address. In this way, it will not be possible to use the address itself as a unique identifier for tracking your steps on the Internet.

App Privacy Report

New section in Settings, namely in the card Privacy, will be called App Privacy Report and can provide you with a lot of interesting information. Here you will be able to see how your applications handle privacy. So in practice it will work quite simply. You go to this new section, navigate to the selected application and immediately see how it handles your data, whether it uses, for example, the camera, location services, microphone and others. You usually grant access to application services at first launch. Now you will be able to see if and how they are using your consent.

iCloud +

In order for privacy to receive the greatest possible security, it is of course necessary to strengthen iCloud directly. Apple is fully aware of this, and that is exactly why today it introduced a new feature in the form of iCloud+. It combines classic cloud storage with privacy-supporting functions, thanks to which it is possible, for example, to browse the web in a significantly more secure form. That's exactly why there's another new feature called Private Relay, which ensures that all outgoing communication is encrypted when browsing the Internet through Safari. Thanks to this, there can be no eavesdropping anywhere, so only you and the landing page know about everything.

All requests sent directly by the user are then sent in two ways. The first one will assign you an anonymous IP address based on yours approximately location, while the other takes care of decrypting the destination address and subsequent redirection. Such a separation of two necessary pieces of information protects the user's privacy in such a way that virtually no one can subsequently determine who actually visited the website.

The Sign in with Apple function, which goes hand in hand with the new Hide My Email feature, also received an extension of functionality. It's now headed straight to Safari and can be used in such a way that you don't have to share your real email with virtually anyone. HomeKit Secure Video was also not forgotten. iCloud+ can now deal with multiple cameras within the household, while always offering end-to-end encryption, while the size of the recordings themselves is not traditionally included in the prepaid tariff.
