In connection with this year's iPhone models, an interesting piece of news appeared this week. According to her, future smartphones from Apple could offer support for satellite calling and messaging, which could be used in places where the cellular signal is not strong enough. It sounds great, but there are a few catches, which you'll read about in today's speculation roundup.

Satellite calling on iPhone 13

In connection with the upcoming iPhone models and their functions, a number of different speculations have appeared in the course of the past months. The latest ones concern the possibility of supporting satellite calls and messages, while well-known analyst Ming-Chi Kuo is also a supporter of this theory. He states that, among other things, this year's iPhones should also be equipped with hardware enabling them to communicate with satellites. Thanks to this improvement, it will be possible to use the iPhone to make calls and send messages even in places where there is not enough coverage of a mobile signal. However, according to Kuo, it is likely that the new iPhones will not initially have the appropriate software to enable this type of communication. Bloomberg also clarified this week that the satellite calling feature will be for emergency use only to communicate with emergency services. According to Bloomberg, it is also very unlikely that the satellite calling function will be launched later this year. According to Bloomberg, so-called emergency text messages could also be connected with the introduction of the satellite communication function, with the help of which users will be able to be informed about extraordinary events.

Apple Watch Series 7 without blood pressure function?

For many years, Apple has been developing its smartwatches in such a way that they represent the greatest possible benefit for the health of their wearers. In connection with this, it also introduces a number of useful health functions, such as EKG or blood oxygen level measurement. In connection with future Apple Watch models, there is also speculation about a lot of other health functions, such as measuring blood sugar or blood pressure. As for the latter function, Nikkei Asia published a report this week that the Apple Watch Series 7 should indeed have this option. According to the mentioned server, this new function is one of the causes of complications in the production of the upcoming new generation of Apple Watch. However, analyst Mark Gurman refuted the speculation about the introduction of the blood pressure measurement function on the same day, according to whom there is literally zero chance in this direction.

But this does not mean that one of the future Apple Watch models should not have the function of measuring blood pressure. A few months ago, there were reports that Apple is one of the most important customers of the British startup Rockley Photonics, which, among other things, is also involved in the development of non-invasive optical sensors with the ability to perform blood-related measurements, including measuring blood pressure, blood level sugar, or perhaps the level of alcohol in the blood.
