WhatsApp is the world's largest communication platform, followed by WeChat, iMessage, Messenger, Telegram and others. This is also why it is quite difficult to introduce new functions into the application. This is simply because it will affect the most users, so it wants to have the news properly tested. Here's an overview of those features that have recently arrived or are coming soon to WhatsApp.
Personalized avatars
In WhatsApp, since the beginning of December, it is now possible to reply to messages using personalized avatars. Here you have at your disposal an abundance of hairstyles, facial features and clothes, from which you can create your own likeness. A personalized avatar can also be set as a profile photo, there are also 36 custom stickers that reflect different emotions and activities.
Communities
In April, Meta announced that it was working on connecting group chats through the so-called Community, representing a major change in how users will communicate on WhatsApp. But it took a while to deploy the feature, and the launch of Communities has only been happening gradually since the beginning of November. Their goal is to raise the imaginary bar for group-to-group communication with a level of privacy and security that users won't find anywhere else. The alternatives available today require you to entrust copies of messages to applications or software companies. Meta wants to offer a higher level of security than end-to-end encryption.
Polls in chats and multiple users
WhatsApp also introduces the ability to create polls in chats, video calls for 32 people and groups for up to 1024 users. Popular reactions with emoticons, sharing larger files or administrative functions. All this will also be available in group Communities. Then there's a big focus on privacy and security, which Meta wants to constantly improve.
"Disappearing" messages
In the foreseeable future, we could finally see disappearing messages, that is, messages that have a certain lifespan. It already works for photos and videos, but the text is still waiting for it. So once you read the message and close the app, you won't be able to find it again. This message will not be copied or screenshotted. Messenger Mety has been able to do this for a long time, and WhatsApp is actually just catching up, which is basically common elsewhere.
Phone and tablet connection
One of the latest beta versions of the application offers the possibility to pair the mobile application with the tablet via Connected devices. It's very similar to connecting your phone with a web app on your computer, because WhatsApp is still pushing a single sign-on strategy.
Picture in picture
WhatsApp confirmed, that it plans to introduce picture-in-picture video calling support on iPhones starting next year. The feature is currently in beta testing with some select users, but the company plans a wider rollout for all users sometime in 2023.
Okay, so WA will learn a few things like Viber and others will take years. Just to master the iPad application. True, I only promise it for a few years.
But if you are constantly dealing with problems, data leaks and other problems, then I understand that there is no time.
