Instagram is a really popular platform of Meta (Facebook, Messenger, WhatsApp) where millions of people spend their time every day. It has long been no longer just about watching published photos, because the original intention has somewhat disappeared from it. With the passage of time, the application acquires more and more new functions, where below you can find the most recently added ones, or those that are only going to be added to the network in the foreseeable future.

Liking Stories

Just on Monday, Instagram announced a new feature called "Private Story Likes" that will change the way users interact with other people's Stories. The news was announced by the head of Instagram, Adam Mosseri, on his Twitter. While currently all interactions via Instagram Stories are sent via direct messages to the user's inbox, the new like system finally works more independently.

As shown in a video shared by Mosserim, the new interface displays a heart icon when viewing Stories in the Instagram app. Once you tap it, the other person will receive a regular notification, not a private message. Instagram's boss says the system is built to still be "private" enough, while not providing a like count. The feature is already rolling out globally, it should be enough to update the app.

New security features

February 8 was Safer Internet Day, and Instagram for it announced on his blog, that it is introducing security features "Your Activity" and "Security Checkup" for users worldwide. Testing of the first function was launched at the end of last year and represents a new possibility to see and manage your activity on Instagram in one place. Thanks to it, users can collectively manage their content and interactions. Not only that, people can also sort and filter their content and interactions by date to find past comments, likes and replies to stories from a specific time range. Security Check, on the other hand, takes the user through the steps needed to secure the account, including checking login activity, checking profile information, and updating account recovery contact information, such as phone number or email address, etc.

Paid subscription

Instagram has also launched a new one paid feature subscription for creators. By doing so, Meta targets potential competitors such as OnlyFans, who continue to see significant growth. Despite the company's dissatisfaction with the App Store, it uses Apple's in-app purchases system for this subscription. Thanks to this, he will also collect 30% of all fees for fraudulent purchases. However, Meta says it is developing a way for creators to at least see how much of their money is going into Apple's wallet.

Instagram

Subscriptions on Instagram are currently only available to a select few creators. They can choose the monthly fee they want to collect from their followers and add a new button to their profile to buy it. Subscribers can subsequently gain access to three new Instagram features. These include exclusive live streams, stories that only subscribers can see, and badges that will appear on comments and messages to indicate that you are a subscriber. It's still a long shot, as Instagram plans to expand the ranks of creators only in the next few months.

Remix and more

Instagram is gradually expanding its Remix feature, which it first launched last year, exclusively for Reels. But you don't have to use Reels exclusively on Instagram to create these "collaborative" TikTok-style Remix videos. Instead, you'll find a new "remix this video" option in the three-dot menu for all videos on the network. But you have to share the final result in Reels. Instagram is also rolling out new live features, including the ability to highlight your next Instagram Live broadcast on your profile, allowing viewers to easily set reminders.
