The former made an acquisition this week of a real-time translation and transcription software development company. Above all, this acquisition shows that Zoom is clearly looking to improve and further expand its live transcription and translation capabilities. In the second part of the article, we will talk about Elon Musk's company SpaceX, namely the Starlink internet network. In this context, Musk said at this year's World Mobile Congress that he wants to reach half a million active users at Starlink within a year and a day.

Zoom buys live transcription and real-time translation company

Zoom officially announced yesterday that it is planning to acquire a company called Kites. The name Kites is short for Karlsruhe Information Technology Solutions, and it is a company that, among other things, has also developed software for real-time translation and transcription. According to the Zoom company, one of the goals of this acquisition should be even more significant help in the field of communication between users who speak different languages and facilitate their conversation with each other. In the future, a function could also be added to the popular communication platform Zoom, which would allow users to communicate more easily with a counterpart who speaks another language.

Kites started its operations on the grounds of the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology. The technology that this company was developing was originally supposed to serve the needs of students who attended lectures in English or German. Although the Zoom video conferencing platform already offers a real-time transcription function, it is limited to users who communicate in English. In addition, on its website, Zoom warns users that the live transcript may contain certain inaccuracies. In connection with the aforementioned acquisition, Zoom further stated that it is considering the possibility of opening a research center in Germany, where the Kites team will continue to operate.

Starlink wants to get half a million users within a year

SpaceX's Starlink satellite Internet network, which belongs to well-known entrepreneur and visionary Elon Musk, could reach 500 thousand users in the next twelve months. Elon Musk made the announcement earlier this week during his speech at this year's Mobile World Congress (MWC). According to Musk, SpaceX's current goal is to cover most of our planet with broadband internet by the end of August. The Starlink network is currently in the middle of its open beta testing phase and recently boasted of reaching 69 active users.

According to Musk, the Starlink service is currently available in twelve countries around the world, and the coverage of this network is constantly expanding. Reaching half a million users and expanding services to a global level in the next twelve months is a fairly ambitious goal. The price of the connecting device from Starlink is currently 499 dollars, the monthly cost of Internet from Starlink is 99 dollars for most users. But Musk said at the congress that the price of the mentioned terminal is actually double, but Musk would like to keep its price in the range of a few hundred dollars for the next year or two if possible. Musk also said that he has already signed contracts with two major telecommunications operators, but did not specify the names of the companies.
