Today's summary of the day will be carried in the sign of farewell. At the beginning of this week, Xiaomi officially announced that it intends to say goodbye to the name of the Mi product line. Products that carried this label will be gradually renamed. The social network Instagram is also saying goodbye to a feature called Swipe Up, which allowed users to go from stories to external websites.

Xiaomi is burying the Mi product line name

Xiaomi is saying goodbye to its Mi product line, or rather its name. In an interview with The Verge magazine yesterday, a Xiaomi spokesperson said that products that have so far carried the Mi designation - including flagship smartphones such as this year's Mi 11 - will simply carry the Xiaomi name. “From the third quarter of 2021, the Mi product line will be renamed Xiaomi. This change will unify the brand and at the same time close the gap in the perception of the brand and its products." said a Xiaomi spokesperson, while also adding that it will take some time before the change is fully reflected in all regions of the world.

Xiaomi further stated that it will continue to maintain the Redmi product line name. The products of the Redmi series are aimed mainly at a younger audience and are characterized by a slightly more affordable price. Xiaomi intends to apply the corresponding change in name to the entire ecosystem, including IoT (Internet of Things) products. The Mi designation was widely used, especially in Western markets. The reason was the comprehensibility and easy pronunciation of this name - smartphones such as the Mi 11, for example, are already available in China under the Xiaomi name, unlike in the Western market.

The end of swipe up in Instagram stories

If you're a frequent user of the Instagram social network and also follow stories, you've probably noticed a feature called Swipe Up in some creators. This is a function that redirects you from a given story on Instagram by swiping upwards from the bottom of the display to a specific link, for example to an e-shop, but also to various other websites. This feature is available to creators with at least ten thousand followers. Although it is important for a number of Instagrammers and companies that present themselves on Instagram, the creators of Instagram have decided to stop its operation from the end of this month.

However, creators certainly don't have to worry about the possibility of redirecting to external websites disappearing completely from stories. The gesture of swiping up from the bottom of the display will be replaced by the option to tap a special virtual sticker from the end of this August. After such a click, the follower will be immediately redirected to the given website. The creators of Instagram intensively tested the mentioned new function during the entire summer of this year. In June, even a few users who wouldn't normally be eligible to activate the Swipe Up feature due to their follower count got the option. According to Instagram's creators, stickers better correspond to the way users interact with the platform. In addition, thanks to the introduction of stickers, it will be possible to reply to stories containing a link to an external website with a private message, which was not possible in the case of the Swipe Up function.
