Even darker Microsoft Word

Dark mode is always a very welcome feature in any application, which can significantly relieve the user's eye strain. It is therefore understandable that whenever a developer introduces dark mode support to their software, it is usually met with a very warm response from users. But once a company introduces a dark mode to its software product, it usually doesn't improve it in any way. In this regard, this week Microsoft proved to be an exception, as it announced that it will make the existing dark mode a little darker in its Word office application. In this case, it is a noticeable change, because the document itself will also be darkened, and not just the application window. “In dark mode, you may now notice that the color of the page, which was previously white, is now dark gray or black. There will also be a color change in the document to tone down the overall effect of the color palette and make everything visually more in harmony with the new dark background.” said program manager Ali Forelli in connection with the introduction of the news.

Nothing received a financial injection from Google

In one of the previous summaries of important IT events, we informed you that Carl Pei, the founder of OnePlus, started a new company of his own called Nothing. At the time this was announced, not many other details were available except that Nothing would focus on manufacturing consumer electronics. Bloomberg reported this week that Pei's company Nothing has received funding from Google and is slowly but surely starting to build ecosystems of its own products. Headphones produced by the Nothing company should see the light of day this spring. In addition, Google Ventures, Google's investment arm, invested fifteen million dollars in Pei's new project this week. In addition, Nothing also received financial support from the director and co-founder of the discussion platform Reddit, Steve Huffman, co-founder of the streaming platform Twitch, Kevin Lin, or YouTuber Casey Neistat.

New effects in Zoom

The Zoom communication platform has gained quite a lot of popularity in the past year, especially as a tool used for work communication or online teaching. But its creators don't seem to think that Zoom should be strictly serious software, and this week provided users with new filters and effects that will make their faces look at least strange when video conferencing or teaching. Zoom's brand new feature is called Studio Effects, and it allows users to add all sorts of facial features, change the color of their lips or eyebrows, and more. Paradoxically, its creators started adding more or less fun effects to Zoom at a time when the frequency of its use for work or educational purposes increased. In addition to tools for teaching and work, Zoom also offers a number of features for meeting family and friends online. Studio Effects is currently in beta testing.

Cyberpunk 2077 source code stolen

CD Projekt, the company behind the popular titles Cyberpunk 2077 and The Witcher 3, became the target of a cyber attack on Monday. The company made the announcement in a recent Twitter post. Hackers allegedly got hold of "certain data belonging to the CD Project capital group". According to the company's own words, it is currently securing its servers and restoring encrypted data. The hackers reportedly said they stole the source codes for Cyberpunk 2077, The Witcher 3, Gwent, and an "unreleased version of The Witcher," and that they also gained access to documents related to accounting, legal affairs, investments or human resources. CD Projekt did not confirm the theft of this data, but said that no user data related to its services was compromised.
