The weekend is upon us, and on the first day of the new week we bring you another summary of what happened in the world of technology over the past weekend. In today's article, we will talk about the new functions that the social network Twitter and the communication platform WhatsApp are preparing for their users, another novelty is the testing of the Microsoft Edge Chromium browser for the Xbox gaming console.

Twitter and the unsend feature

Reuters reported late last week that Twitter is actively testing a feature that would allow users to unsend a tweet before it goes live. Research expert Jane Manchun Wong, who mainly deals with the investigation of yet-to-be-released features on social networks, discovered this fact while tracking the code of the Twitter website. On her own Twitter account, she then shared an animation in which a tweet with a grammatical error was shown for a short time with the option to cancel sending. A Twitter spokeswoman said in this regard that the feature is currently in the testing phase. In the future, it might only be available as a paid feature. Twitter is also working on introducing a regular subscription model that could make it significantly less dependent on advertising revenue. Based on the subscription, users could get a number of bonus features, such as "super follow". Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey has said in the past that his social network will most likely never offer the ability to undo posts, so the undo feature should be a compromise of sorts.

Microsoft is testing the Edge Chromium browser for Xbox

Game consoles of well-known brands are constantly enjoying various improvements and acquiring new functions. Microsoft's Xbox is no exception in this regard. It recently started public testing of its new Edge browser, built on the Chromium platform, just for Xbox consoles. Testers who are members of the Alpha Skip-Ahead group and who also own an Xbox Series S or Xbox Series X gaming console have now gained access to a new version of the Microsoft Edge Chromium browser. The long-awaited full keyboard and mouse support is still missing here, and the browser works in conjunction with the Xbox game controller. The new version of MS Edge for Xbox is especially intended for users who want to access various websites on their game consoles. The MS Edge Chromium browser will now offer access to the game streaming service Google Stadia and should also bring improved compatibility with games designed for the Internet browser environment, as well as with web versions of services such as Skype or Discord.

WhatsApp is preparing to delete a sent photo

In recent months, the communication platform WhatsApp has been discussed mainly in connection with the new terms of use, which forced a large part of its users to switch to one of the competing platforms even before they came into force. But this failure did not deter the creators of WhatsApp from working on further improvements, news and new features. One of these novelties could be a feature in one of the future updates of the WhatsApp application, enabling the sending of "disappearing photos" - i.e. images that will be automatically deleted after a certain time limit. At the moment, photos are sent via WhatsApp in such a way that, in addition, the images are automatically saved in the device's gallery, i.e. in the default setting. But in the future, users should get the option to set when sending a photo to delete it immediately after the recipient leaves the current chat window. This function is certainly nothing new in the world of social networks and communication applications - private messages on Instagram currently offer similar options, and Snapchat, for example, also works on a similar principle, which can also warn users about taking a screenshot. However, this notification is not planned for the disappearing photos feature on WhatsApp.
