Even twenty-seven years of marriage does not necessarily mean that it will be a lifelong bond. Proof of this is the marriage of Bill and Melinda Gates, who announced earlier this week that they have decided to go their separate ways. In addition to this news, in our roundup of the past day today, we bring you the news about the launch of Twitter's audio chat platform Spaces and the testing of the Android version of the Clubhouse app.

Gates divorce

Melinda and Bill Gates announced publicly earlier this week that their marriage together after twenty-seven years is ending. In a joint statement, the Gateses said that "they don't believe they can continue to grow as a couple in the next phase of their lives". Bill Gates entered the consciousness of the majority of the public as the founder of Microsoft, but for many years he has been mainly engaged in charitable work. Together with his wife Melinda, he founded the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation in 2000 - after he resigned from the position of executive director of Microsoft. The Gates Foundation has grown steadily since its inception to become one of the largest charitable foundations in the world. Melinda Gates first worked at Microsoft as a product marketing manager, but left there in the second half of the nineties. It is not yet certain what impact, if any, the Gates' divorce will have on the foundation's operations. Both stated in their statements that they continue to place their trust in the mission of their foundation.

Twitter launches audio chat for users with more than 600 followers

Starting this week, the social network Twitter offers users with more than 600 followers the opportunity to host their own audio shows as part of the Spaces service. It is a similar to the popular Clubhouse, while Spaces will be available for both iOS and Android devices. Twitter said it decided on the 600 follower limit based on user feedback. According to the creators of Twitter, the operators of the accounts monitored in this way are very likely to have experience in organizing mass conversations and know how to speak to their own audience. Twitter also plans to offer speakers on the Spaces platform the ability to monetize their content, for example through the sale of virtual tickets. The monetization option will gradually be made available to a limited group of users over the next few months.

Clubhouse has started testing its Android app

After several long months, Clubhouse has finally started testing its app for Android devices. The creators of the audio chat platform said this week that the Android version of Clubhouse is currently in beta testing. Clubhouse for Android is reportedly now testing a handful of select users to provide the app's developers with the desired feedback. According to the developers of Clubhouse, this is still a "very rough version of the app", and it is not yet clear when Clubhouse for Android could be rolled out to regular users. Clubhouse took quite a while to develop its own app for Android. Until now, the application was only available to iPhone owners, registration was only possible by invitation, which initially gave Clubhouse an attractive stamp of exclusivity in the eyes of some people. But in the meantime, a number of other companies announced that they were preparing their own version of Clubhouse, and interest in the original platform gradually began to decline.
