In today's summary of the day, this time we will exclusively focus on gaming consoles. Namely, it will be the PlayStation 5 and Nintendo Switch consoles. Both will receive software updates this week, through which users will get interesting new features. In the case of the PlayStation 5, it will be the long-awaited memory expansion option, while for the Nintendo Switch it will be support for audio transmission via the Bluetooth protocol.

PlayStation 5 storage expansion

PlayStation 5 game console owners can finally start celebrating. As early as this week, they should receive the long-awaited software update, which will offer users the option of expanding storage. The SSD on PlayStation 5 consoles has a specific M.2 slot, but this slot has been locked until now. It was only relatively recently that Sony allowed it to be unlocked for a handful of players as part of a beta testing program. With the arrival of the full version of the mentioned software update, all owners of PlayStation 5 game consoles will already have the option of installing a PCIe 4.0 M.2 SSD with storage from 250 GB to 4 TB. Once the device, meeting the specified technical and dimensional requirements, is successfully installed, it can be used for copying, downloading, updating and playing games as well as media applications. Sony announced the news this week ..., dedicated to PlayStation consoles.

The gradual expansion of the aforementioned software update for the PlayStation 5 game console should have been happening since yesterday. In its blog post, Sony further stated that players can also look forward to PS Remote Play support over mobile networks or the ability to watch Share Screen broadcasts in the PS application during this month.

Bluetooth Audio support for Nintendo Switch

Owners of other gaming consoles will also receive the software update – this time it will be the Nintendo Switch. For those, support for audio transmission via the Bluetooth protocol will be introduced as part of the software update. In practice, this means that owners of these popular handheld game consoles will finally be able to turn on audio transmission to wireless headphones while playing. Support for the ability to listen to audio from the Nintendo Switch via Bluetooth has been missing until now, and users have been calling for it since 2017 in vain.

However, according to the related document, support for listening via Bluetooth headphones on Nintendo Switch consoles does have its drawbacks. In the case of connected Bluetooth headphones, according to the available information, it will only be possible to use a maximum of two wireless controllers. Unfortunately, the system also won't (yet?) offer support for Bluetooth microphones, making it virtually impossible to participate in voice chat during gameplay. Owners of Nintendo Switch game consoles have been waiting for the support of audio transmission via Bluetooth protocol for a really long time, and it was even starting to be speculated that this feature could only be received in the future Nintendo Switch Pro. A software update for Nintendo Switch with support for Bluetooth audio is already rolling out to some users. But the reactions are mixed - owners of some consoles report, for example, problems with pairing with wireless headphones. Pairing the Nintendo Switch game console with wireless headphones should be done in the settings in the console menu.
