Modern technology is a great thing, but despite its ever-advancing development, it also faces a number of shortcomings. One of them is the lack of accessibility for users who live with various handicaps. When the popular social network Twitter began testing its new voice posts last summer, it faced criticism, among other things, for not immediately introducing text transcription, making it difficult for hearing-impaired users to follow them. This shortcoming was rectified by Twitter only this year, when it finally started rolling out the ability to turn on captions for this type of post.

Twitter is rolling out transcription of voice posts

The popular social network Twitter has long faced criticism from various quarters for not taking enough care to implement all possible accessibility features that would make its use easier even for disabled users. However, according to available reports, this is finally starting to change. Twitter recently rolled out a new feature that allows users to enable automatic text transcription for voice posts.

Voice tweets began to be gradually tested on the Twitter social network during the summer of last year, but the option to turn on their text transcription was unfortunately missing until now, which was met with a negative response from a number of users, activists and institutions. Now, Twitter management has finally officially announced that it has taken user feedback to heart and is finally starting to roll out the ability to read captions for voice tweets as part of improvements to its accessibility features. Using this feature is very simple, as captions are automatically generated and loaded immediately after a voice post is uploaded to Twitter. To turn on the transcription of voice tweets on the web version of Twitter, just click on the CC button.

Tencent buys British game studio Sumo

Chinese tech giant Tencent officially announced its plans to acquire British game development studio Sumo Group earlier this week. The price should be 1,27 billion dollars. The headquarters of Sumo Group is currently located in Sheffield, England. During its existence, the studio continuously credited the development of game titles such as Sackboy: A Big Adventure for the PlayStation 5 game console. Its employees also participated in the development of the game Crackdown 3 for the Xbox game console from Microsoft, for example.

In 2017, a multi-platform game called Snake Pass emerged from the development workshop of the Sumo studio. Sumo studio director Carl Cavers said in a related official statement that he and Sumo's co-founders Paul Porter and Darren Mills remain committed to continuing in their roles, and that working with China's Tencent represents an opportunity that would be a shame to miss. According to Cavers, the work of the Sumo studio will gain a new dimension thanks to the mentioned acquisition. According to its head of strategy, James Mitchell, Tencent also has the potential to improve and accelerate the work of the Sumo studio, not only in the UK, but also abroad. So far, it has not been specified in any way what specific results should come from the acquisition of the Sumo game studio by the Chinese company Tencent, but the answer will certainly not take too long.
