In today's summary of the day, Google will be mentioned twice. For the first time in connection with the communication platform Google Meet, where Google will offer users the opportunity to use various filters, effects and masks during personal video calls. The next part of the article will talk about the antitrust investigation that Google is now facing. We also mention TikTok - this time in connection with a new feature that should allow users to apply for jobs through this social network.

Google Meet is adding new features

A handful of other new features have recently been added to the popular communication platform Google Meet. Users of the mobile version of the Google Meet application for smartphones with iOS and Android operating systems can look forward to them. This is a collection of new video filters, effects, as well as various masks, operating on the principle of virtual reality. New filters, effects and masks will be available for face-to-face calls within the Google Meet app. Users will be able to activate the new effects by tapping on the icon in the lower right corner during a call - after tapping on the appropriate icon, users will see a menu of all possible filters and effects, including the aforementioned animated AR face masks. Most of the effects will only be available for personal Gmail accounts, while Workspace users will only have a few basic options, such as blurring the background during a video call, or setting a limited number of virtual backgrounds, in order to maintain as much professionalism and seriousness as possible. By adding new effects, Google wants to cater more to "ordinary" users who use the Meet communication platform for other than purely professional purposes.

Google faces investigation over Play Store charges

A coalition of prosecutors launched a new antitrust investigation into Google on Wednesday. The company is accused of abusing its control over the online store of applications for smartphones with the Android operating system. The suit was jointly filed by thirty-six states along with Washington, DC in federal court in California. The plaintiff does not like the fact that Google requires developers to pay a commission of 30% on sales in the Google Play Store. Google responded to the lawsuit in a post on its official blog, where it said, among other things, that it found it strange that a group of prosecutors decided to attack "a system that provides more openness and options than other systems" with a lawsuit. The Google Play online store has always been considered less "monopoly" than the Apple App Store, but now it's getting a lot more attention.

Job offers on TikTok

Did you think that the social platform TikTok is mostly for kids and teenagers? Apparently, its operators also count on an adult audience, which is why they started testing a tool that could allow users to apply for jobs directly in the application environment, with the help of their own video presentations. Companies such as Chipotle, Target or even Shopify will become potential employers. The feature is tentatively called TikTok Resumes, and about three dozen different companies have already expressed interest in using it. As part of this feature, users will be able to record their own video presentation, upload it to the TikTok platform and send it to the company through it. An instructional video for creating the said presentations includes advice for users not to disclose any sensitive information.
