Unfortunately, the coronavirus pandemic is still significantly influencing the course of the world and, with it, also various events. These include, for example, the World Mobile Congress. Unlike last year, it will be held this year, but under very strict conditions, and in addition, some famous names will be absent - Google was among them yesterday. In today's summary of the day, we will also make room for the new smart watch from Casio and the new function on Instagram.

Casio G-Shock smartwatch

Yesterday Casio presented a new model of its G-Shock watch. But this is not a standard addition to the mentioned product line – this time it is the first ever G-Shock smart watch that runs the Wear OS operating system. The GSW-H1000 model is part of the G-Squad Pro line of durable wristwatches. The watch is equipped with a titanium back, is resistant to impacts, shocks and water, and has an always-on LCD display with a time indicator and a color LCD display with the ability to display maps, notifications, data from various sensors and other useful information. The Casio G-Shock watch also features built-in GPS, an app to track twenty-four different indoor workouts and fifteen outdoor activities including running, cycling and walking, and will be available in red, black and blue. Their price will be approximately 15,5 thousand crowns in conversion.

Instagram and duets in Reels

Instagram officially launched the duets feature on its Reels service yesterday. The new feature is called Remix and allows users to upload their own video alongside another user's video - a similar feature that TikTok offers with its "stitch" for example. Until now, the Remix function only worked in beta test mode (albeit for the public), but now it is officially fully available to all users. TikTok introduced its duets to further strengthen the community side of its app. The Snapchat platform is also reportedly working on a similar feature at the moment. TikTok users use duets, for example, to sing together or to react to other users' videos. To add a remix, just tap the three dots icon in the lower right corner and then select Remix this frequency in the menu. Similar to the case of TikTok, the video creators themselves decide whether the video will be available for remixing as well.

Google will not attend Mobile World Congress

While last year the World Mobile Congress, which takes place every year in Barcelona, Spain, was canceled due to the coronavirus pandemic, this year it will be held under very strict hygienic conditions and with significantly less participation. Some participants acknowledged this fact with enthusiasm, but others decided not to participate just to be safe. Among those who will miss the Mobile World Congress this year is also Google, which officially announced this fact yesterday. But she is not the only one, and among those who renounced their participation this year are, for example, Nokia, Sony or even Oracle. Google released an official statement stating, among other things, that it has decided to comply with travel restrictions and regulations. "However, we will continue to work closely with the GSMA and support our partners through virtual events," stated Google, adding that they are looking forward not only to this year's online activities associated with the World Mobile Congress, but also to the next year of this congress, which - hopefully - will be held again in Barcelona next year.
