One of the most significant domestic events of the past weekend was the census of the population, houses and apartments. At midnight from Friday to Saturday, its online version was launched, but on Saturday morning there was a total system failure. That outage ended up lasting most of Saturday. Fortunately, the census has been working without problems since Sunday, and it will be extended until May 11 precisely because of the outage - or in order to prevent further outages. In the next part of our summary of the day, we will talk about Facebook, which is gradually starting to reopen some of its offices.

Facebook will open its offices in May

Last spring, due to the global coronavirus pandemic, a number of factories, establishments, stores and offices around the world closed. Facebook was no exception in this regard, closing a number of its branches, including the headquarters in the Bay Area. Along with how the situation is finally starting to improve at least a little in many places, Facebook also plans to gradually open its offices. The Bay Area location could open to ten percent capacity as early as the first half of May if new cases of COVID-19 continue to decline. The offices in Menlo Park, California will also be reopened - albeit only to a limited extent. Facebook revealed the plans last Friday, adding that an office in Sunnyvale, Calif., is expected to open on May 17, followed by offices in San Francisco in early June.

Clubhouse

All Facebook employees can work from home until the second of July, and Facebook says that the reopening of the largest establishments could happen in the first half of September. Facebook spokeswoman Chloe Meyere said in this context that the health and safety of employees and community members is a priority for Facebook, and therefore the company wants to ensure the best possible conditions before opening its branches and take the necessary measures, such as ensuring distances or wearing mouth protection and the nose. Other companies are continuing to reopen their locations, with Microsoft, for example, announcing that it plans to begin returning employees to its headquarters in Redmont, Washington, on March 29.

Troubled online census

On Saturday, March 27, 2021, the online population, house and apartment census was launched. People had the option to fill out the enumeration form on the web, but also, for example, in the environment of a special application for iOS or Android. However, not long after the census was launched, the website started experiencing problems and the system was down for most of the day on Saturday, which had a corresponding response on social media as well. An error in the address whisperer was allegedly to blame for the several-hour outage of the enumeration system - the Czech Statistical Office suspended the entire system on Saturday morning and did not start it until the afternoon. During Sunday, the census website was working more or less without problems, only a warning started to appear in its upper part for cases when more than 150 thousand people were engaged in the census at once. On Sunday afternoon, the server iDnes quoted the chairman of the Czech Statistical Office, Marko Rojíček, according to whom approximately one million people participated in the online census on Sunday afternoon. Due to problems on the website, the deadline for submitting the online census form has been extended until May 11. By extending the deadline, the organizers want to achieve a better distribution of the onslaught of those interested in the online census. In connection with the outage, Marek Rojíček stated that it was the supplier's fault. Some components of the system were to be taken care of by the OKsystem company.
