Are you wondering what the world is still missing after the events of last year and this year? Have you ever thought that only a real Jurassic Park could top it all off? The co-founder of Neuralink, Max Hodak, also thought about the same thing, and shared his thoughts on Twitter. In our summary of the events of the past day, we will also talk about Facebook, twice - the first time in connection with a new feature to help users better recognize satirical content, the second time in connection with the release of the Hotline platform, which is supposed to be a competitor to Clubhouse.

Facebook introduces tags to detect satire

The social network Facebook is a place where users can, among other things, share their opinions (if they are OK according to Facebook), experiences, but also various humorous texts. But there is often a problem with humor in that some people may not understand it completely, and sometimes they take satirically intended statements literally and seriously. Facebook is now trying to prevent these oversights, so it will start adding special labels to some of the posts that will be published using the Pages tool. These tags are intended to help users distinguish whether a given post is from a Facebook fan page or perhaps a satirical site, such as the various fake and fun accounts of some celebrities. The management of Facebook has not yet officially commented on the reason for which it actually decided to take such a step, but the relevant identification is apparently very important. The truth is that it is not a unique phenomenon on Facebook when people misinterpret humorously intended messages from satirical websites, of which there are quite a few in our country as well. It is not the first time that Facebook has taken steps to better distinguish the tone of posts - in June of last year, for example, this popular social network introduced marking of posts from sources that are in any way controlled by the government.

Musk's partner and his plans for Jurassic Park

Neuralink co-founder and Elon Musk's partner, Max Hodak, posted on Twitter last Saturday that his startup has enough technological knowledge and skills to build its own Jurassic Park. Max Hodak specifically mentioned in his tweet on Saturday: “Maybe we could build our own Jurassic Park if we wanted to. They would not be genetically authentic dinosaurs, but […] fifteen years of breeding and engineering could produce exotic new species”. In the original film Jurassic Park, a group of scientists managed to breed real dinosaurs with the help of genetics, which they then placed in a prehistoric safari. But in the end, things didn't turn out the way the founders of Jurassic Park had originally hoped. The company Neuralink started its operations in 2017, among its projects were devices that should potentially help patients with Alzheimer's disease, dementia, or other brain diseases. In August last year, Neuralink implanted a tiny chip into the brain of a guinea pig named Gertrude. However, Hodak did not otherwise specify what technology Neuralink should use to grow the dinosaurs.

Clubhouse competition is here

Yesterday, Facebook launched the experimental operation of its own audio chat platform, which is supposed to represent competition to the popular Clubhouse. The platform is called Hotline, and Facebook's New Product Experiment division is behind its development. In addition to audio, Hotline also offers video support, but this feature is not yet available in experimental operation. Users will be able to decide whether they only want to passively listen to the ongoing conversation, or actively participate themselves. Unlike Clubhouse, Hotline will also offer automatic conversation recording. If you want to try the Hotline ahead of time, you can register at this address. However, at the time of writing this article, registration was not available in the Czech Republic.
