Health-related features are very popular among users and manufacturers of consumer electronics. Google has decided to introduce the possibility of measuring heart rate and breathing rate with the help of mobile phone cameras for its Google Fit platform. In addition to this news, in our today's overview we will look at the ranking of the most downloaded games for the Nintendo Switch console or what Instagram wants to do to get a little closer to TikTok.

Measuring heart rate and breathing rate on Google Fit

More and more technology companies are placing more and more importance on the health functions of their smart devices, especially in the context of the current situation. Of course, Google cannot be missing among these companies. It has been running its own Google Health platform for some time, which focuses on health and fitness. Among the latest activities in this direction is the development of functions to allow owners of certain smart mobile phones to measure heart rate and breathing rate using the Google Fit application and cameras on smartphones with the Android operating system. The Google Fit app will use the front camera of Android smartphones to measure the number of breaths and breaths in one minute.

During the measurement, the phone will have to be placed on a stable, solid surface so that the user can see himself on the display from the waist up - a clear shot of the user's head and torso without any obstacles is absolutely necessary for this measurement. After starting the measurement, users will be shown a user interface on their smartphone screen with a shot of their face and chest, as well as instructions on how to breathe. Once the measurement is completed, the user will see the corresponding results on the display. Breathing rate is measured through the detection of small changes on the user's chest, which are sensed with the help of computer vision. To measure the heart rate, users will have to place their finger on the rear camera lens of their smartphone and press lightly. Both types of measurement take a total of thirty seconds, and users are recommended to take the measurement at rest, at least a few minutes after finishing any activity.

Instagram will approach the popular TikTok

Social networks seem to be practically racing each other lately to see which one will introduce more new features. According to the latest news, Instagram has recently been developing a new feature to bring its app a little closer to the popular TikTok. These are vertical Instagram Stories - at the moment users can switch between stories by tapping or horizontally scrolling to the sides, but in the future the transition between individual posts could be done by swiping up and down - similar to the popular TikTok network. Vertical switching is, according to some, more natural than simultaneous tapping and side-scrolling. The introduction of vertical Instagram Stories could significantly revitalize the entire platform and attract users' attention from static content such as photos in the feed to more dynamic interaction with the content of stories. The vertical Stories feature is still in testing and not available to the public.
