Gaming giant Electronic Arts is more famous for its desktop titles and games for game consoles, but in the last few years it has been trying hard to keep up with companies that publish games for tablets and smartphones. As part of this effort, the Electronic Arts company recently announced that it will buy the Playdemic studio, which is dedicated to the creation of various mobile games. In the second part of our summary of the past day, we will once again talk about a technological giant. This time it will be Google, which is preparing to release a security update for some of its services in September.

Electronic Arts has announced the acquisition of the Playdemic studio, it wants to penetrate more into the mobile game market

Gaming giant Electronic Arts has recently been taking a number of steps for its further growth and is also continuing to expand into the waters of mobile gaming. One of these steps was, for example, the acquisition of Glu Mobile in April of this year, which Electronic Arts bought for $2,4 billion. Yesterday, Electronic Arts announced for a change that it will buy the game development studio Playdemic, which until now fell under the Games division of Warner Bros.

Playdemic mainly specializes in various kinds of games for smartphones. The price was $1,4 billion. One of the most famous titles that came out of the workshop of this game studio, for example, is a game called Golf Clash, which currently boasts more than eighty million downloads worldwide. Electronic Arts is the second largest "Western" game development company, with a current market capitalization of around $40 billion. So far, the Electronic Arts studio has achieved the most success mainly from desktop games and games for various game consoles - among its most successful recent titles are, for example, the games Battlefield, Star Wars and Titanfall. In recent years, EA has been trying with all its might to gain a foothold in the mobile game market, which should be helped by the aforementioned acquisition, among other things.

Updating Google Drive may disable some older links

Yesterday, Google announced that it plans to release a new software update that, among other things, should also provide users with much more security. Unfortunately, for this update, users will have to pay an unpleasant tax in the form of some partially non-functional links - but there is no need to panic immediately. Since mid-September this year, it may happen that a number of links to Google Drive, which are older, will not work. The said update should be officially released on September 13, and within it, Google will introduce the source key for the generated shared links to its Google Drive service, among other things. For users who have already viewed the given older links at some point in the past, in theory nothing should change at all, and access to the linked material will continue to be maintained. Users who will be opening any of the older links for the first time after the upcoming update, but will need the just-mentioned source key to be able to access the linked files as well.

Google Drive

Administrators of the Workspace platform will have until July 23 of this year to decide how to update Google Drive in their company. Those who use Workspace only for personal purposes will receive a notification on July 26 that the relevant changes are starting to take place and will have until September 13 to decide whether to proceed with the said update. But Google strongly encourages users to actually update in their own interest. Google also has other changes planned that may affect some older links to the YouTube platform for a change. As of July 23rd of this year, all non-public video links will automatically become private, and if the creator wishes to make the change, they will have to do so manually for each of their videos.
