A recently published FCC filing has revealed some details about augmented reality glasses from Facebook's workshop. In this case, however, these are not glasses that should be intended for ordinary consumers. The device, codenamed Gemini, is to be used for research purposes by Facebook employees.

FCC filing reveals details about Facebook's AR glasses

It was added to the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) database this week manual for the Project Aria experimental glasses AR from Facebook's workshop. According to available reports, it looks like the glasses will be codenamed Gemini for now. Facebook officially announced its Aria project in September of last year. Gemini works in some ways like any other glasses, and it is even possible to add corrective lenses to them if necessary. However, the legs of these glasses, unlike standard ones, cannot be classically folded, and the device cannot be used in conjunction with a virtual reality headset. Facebook's Gemini glasses are also, according to available information, equipped with a proximity sensor, fitted with a chip from Qualcomm's workshop, and apparently also equipped with the same camera sensors as the Oculus Quest 2 VR glasses. Charging of these glasses is done with the help of a special magnetic connector, which can also serve for data transfer purposes.

The Gemini glasses can also be paired with the corresponding smartphone application, through which data will be recorded, the connection status checked or the battery charge level of the glasses will be checked. On its website dedicated to the Aria project, Facebook states that the glasses are not intended to be a commercial product, nor are they a prototype device that should reach store shelves or the public at any time in the future. It looks like the Gemini glasses are intended only for a small group of Facebook employees, who will most likely be used to collect data in the company's campus environment and in public. At the same time, Facebook states that all collected data will be anonymized. However, according to available reports, Facebook is planning to release one more smart glasses. These are said to be developed in collaboration with the Ray-Ban brand, and in this case it should already be a product that will be intended for ordinary consumers.

Instagram will change its search results

In the foreseeable future, the operators of the social network Instagram plan to include primarily photos and videos in the search results. Instagram boss Adam Mosseri made the announcement this week. The search results could thus take the form of a grid, containing photos and videos, which the algorithm would generate based on the keyword along with results for individual accounts or hashtags. In relation to the planned change to the search results, Mosseri said that this innovation is intended to serve as an improvement to encourage inspiration and discovery of new content.

The new search system should also offer Instagram users much more relevant results that will also be related to the user's activity on Instagram and other conditions. The system of whispering keywords during the search will also be improved. At the same time, the operators of Instagram, according to their own words, are trying to ensure that there is even more careful and effective filtering of sexually explicit photos and videos and other content that will be in violation of the terms of use of the Instagram social network.
