WhatsApp was already used by two billion people worldwide in 2020. So every new thing that comes to the title will affect a really huge number of users. But what is coming looks really good. We can look forward to, for example, end-to-end encryption, but also support for the iPad.

Encryption

Almost a month since Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg announced that WhatsApp would receive end-to-end encrypted backups, it appears that the feature is available to some beta testers of the title. Even if this does not affect the use of the application for the average user, or rather it is not a function visible at first glance, it is all the more important. Because of the security of conversations, the title is often criticized. And it's true that if so many people are using it, they deserve some privacy.

How to hide profile photo:

End-to-end encryption, also referred to as E2EE, is encryption in which data transmission is secured against eavesdropping by the administrator of the communication channel as well as the administrator of the server through which users communicate. So when the company integrates it, no one, not Apple, not Google, or himself can access your chats or calls.

Encrypted cloud backups

End-to-end encryption isn't the only security feature WhatsApp is planning. In this case, it is a backup of your conversations on iCloud, which you will be able to secure with a password. You could have done the backup itself before, but since the encryption keys were owned by Apple, there could be a risk of unauthorized access. But if you provide a password for the backup, no one - Apple, WhatsApp or the FBI or other authorities - can access it. If he then tries unsuccessfully, WhatsApp will permanently disable access to the backup.

Voice message player

After being able to adjust the speed of the voice message playback, the creators of the title are now working on a completely new audio player. This player will thus allow you to listen to messages even if you leave the given conversation. The player will be integrated into the entire application and will be constantly visible to users so that they can pause the messages read to them. Another advantage is that you can listen to the message while communicating with someone else within the application.

Online status

In the application, you can set whether you want to display information about when you were last connected to it. If you don't want to share this information, you won't see it with others either. Currently, however, there is an option in beta testing where you can select only a certain group of users to allow the display of information and to which not. This way you can easily distinguish the family from other contacts. You will be happy to share that information, but others will be out of luck.

Disappearing messages and new "bubble" design

Beta testers now have new colors for chat bubbles, which appear with more rounded corners. Regarding the messages, there is also the news that in the future WhatsApp will allow you to specify different durations, or display. You will be able to choose 24 hours, 7 days or 90 days. This has an advantage not only with regard to privacy, but also storage. If you let the attachments disappear, they won't take up your storage space.

More devices signed in

WhatsApp may finally learn what e.g. Telegram can do, i.e. support multiple devices. So he can already do it, but only in the case of a computer. It is said that WhatsApp should finally develop an application for the iPad as well, so you could connect one account to multiple mobile devices. This even in the case of, for example, two iPhones. This also involves downloading all messages from the server so that they are up-to-date on all devices.
