Air is not easy in our country, especially in Prague. Smog, dust, all this can have unpleasant consequences for people with breathing problems. Although the SmogAlarm application will not improve the air, it can at least inform you about the state of the air.

SmogAlarm is a project of a non-profit organization Clear sky from Ostrava and was created with the cooperation of developer Vojtěch Vrbka and graphic artist Josef Richter financially supported by companies Ceetrust. The application first appeared for the Android operating system, and after its success on this platform, it also appeared for iOS users. The application has one main function, which it performs well – to display the level of air pollution in your area.

When launched, the app will ask for your location information to determine which station to use. Here you can also choose manually, the list contains all large and small cities of our country. On the main screen, it will then display the current air condition expressed verbally (from very bad to very good) and also with the appropriate emoticon. Below it, you will find a graphic representation of the content of harmful substances in the air on a scale from one to six. You can then click on each of the values (dust, sulfur dioxide, nitrogen dioxide, carbon monoxide...) for a more accurate value and a more detailed description. For each malicious component in this menu, you will find a short discussion, and a link to Wikipedia is also available. It could open in the integrated browser instead of switching to mobile Safari, but that's a small thing.

The second and last option is to display the map, on which you will find colored badges with a number indicating the level of pollution for larger cities. After clicking on the badge, the name of the city and the air condition will be displayed, you can also view a more detailed view, i.e. the main screen for that city, by clicking on the blue arrow. In terms of graphics, however, it is a Czech gem among applications. Simplicity and minimalism are the main themes of visual processing, for which Josef Richter deserves great praise. The application environment has a pleasant impression and movement in it is completely intuitive. There is really nothing to complain about the application, moreover, it is available completely free of charge.
