Commercial message: Have you ever thought about how to make your home heating more efficient? Solutions in the form of smart thermostats and smart thermostatic heads will help save a lot of worries, but also money for energy. The whole concept makes it possible to use the time or location of your devices for automatic and clear heating smart homes. How exactly to arrange smart heating in a detached house or block of flats?

How do we divide smart heating?

From the beginning, it is important to divide the smart heating options according to how things currently look in your home. If you live in a separate house with your own boiler for gas, wood or other solid fuels, you can simply start using a smart thermostat or the entire system of a thermostat and compatible thermostatic heads. If, on the other hand, you live in an apartment with central heating, you only need to install smart thermostatic heads.

As for the control of the smart heating, everything happens differently than wirelessly. Once you have installed a smart thermostat or smart thermostat heads, just pair the element with the smartphone app and tablets. You can then select the desired temperature in the house from the comfort of your couch on your smartphone. In addition, a large number of these applications give the possibility to plan the temperature in the long term or to use the location of your device to automatically start and end the heating.

TIP: Some elements of smart heating are also compatible with the Siri voice assistant and the protocol Apple HomeKit – this is, for example, Netatmo Thermostat or Tado Smart Thermostat.

Home heating with a smart thermostat

Let's start heating the home with smart thermostats. At first glance, such a smart thermostat may look exactly the same as a classic one. The difference is, of course, that a smart thermostat offers much more efficient and convenient heating management. First, some models are equipped with a separate batteries with a long duration, and therefore you are not limited in terms of their placement in the house. The second main advantage is the fact that you control the smart thermostat simply through a mobile or web application (from anywhere and at any time). In the application, you can set or create your own heating programs, and you can also find a detailed overview of the heating history here - both of these functions are a great way to save on energy costs.

If you decide to equip a household with a boiler with a smart thermostat and thermostatic heads of the same brand, you can achieve so-called multi-zone heating. This means that you can set the temperature separately in each room with a smart thermostatic head - this is the imaginary pinnacle of the entire smart heating concept. The various additional functions of smart thermostats depend on its price and related equipment. Some more expensive models manage to learn your "temperature routines" by themselves and can work with heating as well air conditioning or they automatically detect your way home and you always come to a heated (cooled) house.

Household heating with smart thermostatic heads

Now we move to smart thermostatic heads. Compared to smart thermostats, these are a much simpler tool, at least in terms of installation - the connection of a smart thermostat should always be done by a professional, while with thermostatic heads you just need to remove the classic head and replace it with the smart one (but always check compatibility with your valves first). As mentioned earlier, the headers are the ideal smart heating solution for homes with central heating.

You can control smart thermostatic heads either classically manually (typically there is a display on the head showing the current heating temperature) or through a separate application. The mobile application connects all smart heads of the same brand in your home and allows you to set the temperature on each separately. As with smart thermostats, in this case too, routines can be created through the application and heating can be planned long-term in advance. Don't forget that smart thermostatic heads of course work completely wirelessly and therefore need to be replaced once in a while AA batteries.

TIP: Popular models of smart thermostatic heads with direct Apple HomeKit support include, for example Netatmo Radiator Valves or EVE THERMO3.
