The company behind LogMeIn, which allows wireless access to a Mac or PC from the comfort of an iOS device, on its own blog announced that users of the free version will have just seven days from their next login to the service to decide whether they want to upgrade to a higher but paid version of the software or stop using the app. The transition to the paid model is effective immediately.

"After 10 years of offering our free remote access product, LogMeIn Free, we're ending it," Tara Haas wrote on the blog. “We are merging our two (free and premium) products into one. This will be offered only in a paid version and will offer what we believe is the best premium desktop, cloud and mobile data access experience currently available on the market.”

The decision also affected the paid application LogInMe Ignition, which was pulled from the app stores and its users are no longer able to use it for free. Although the company will offer various forms of discounts, a large outflow of users to solutions that can continue to be used for free can still be expected.

While LogMeIn Central will not be affected by this decision, users of the Free version will have to upgrade to the Pro version, which starts at $99 (for individuals, the ability to connect two computers). There is also a version for professional users ($249, up to five computers) and for entrepreneurs ($449, up to ten computers).

According to LogMeIn, this move comes as a response to the changing needs of users, but the reason why the company decided not to inform more about this fundamental change and only implemented it hour by hour, did not say. Users of other LogMeIn products – Cubby and join.me – will not be affected by these changes.
