The Czech development team released it more than a week ago AppsDevTeam application Dictionary for iPhone. During this time, the developers were not lazy and caught small bugs in the application, so it's time to take a good look at this dictionary.

Dictionary translates from Czech and into Czech and in 4 world languages. According to the authors, this iPhone dictionary contains 76 Czech-English, 000 Czech-German, 68 Czech-French and 000 Czech-Spanish connections. As a basic dictionary, especially for English and German, I think it is really sufficient.

What scores less for me is the application environment. When I need to translate a certain word, in addition to the quality of the translation, the speed of how quickly I can find the word in the dictionary is decisive for me. And I still see great reserves in this area. The search itself takes place immediately, but the environment would need a little improvement. Indeed, many applications in the iPhone set the bar really high in terms of user-friendly environment.

To take it step by step. The application has its initial screen with the name of the development team and the number of connections in the database. Only the "search" button moves us to typing the expression itself. This screen is completely unnecessary and only delays. But the authors promised me that in a future update we can expect great improvement.

Další I have a complaint about switching languages. Now it is necessary to return to the initial screen, go to the settings and here switch the language to another one. However, there is a language flag on the search screen, so the language could be switched by clicking on the given flag. Perhaps all 4 flags could be displayed there, or in the settings it would be possible to modify which language flags should be displayed in the search screen, and somehow highlight the selected flag (translation language).

The translation itself takes place after writing the expression and clicking on the button "from Czech" or "to Czech". I would probably handle these buttons differently, they make me think and I don't like that, but this is more my problem. If you are translating some word, then neither it is not necessary to write it in its entirety, but the first few letters are enough. After pressing the translation, several expressions will pop up at you on the next screen and you can choose which one you meant. The number of possible meanings of the given word can be found in the display behind the given expression, and after clicking on it, all of them will be displayed.

The last complaint I would have is that if the dictionary does not find a translation for a given term, then only an empty gray screen follows instead of stating that there is unfortunately no such word in the dictionary. But it's a dictionary very accomplished and the authors definitely deserve their $3.99 (€2.99) for this iPhone app. Moreover, I have no doubt that many of my reproaches will be removed already in the next update and they will continue to work hard on the app. So I definitely recommend the dictionary to buy.
