Although there are many applications in the App Store, good dictionaries usable for Czech users are like saffron. Some have only a very limited database of words, others a poorly written application. However, there are applications that offer quality and carry the imaginary banner of this software industry. One of the best dictionaries for iOS is for sure Dictionary in your pocket. So let's take a closer look at what it actually offers, what makes it special, but also what faults it has.

The pocket dictionary is unique, among other things, in that it can be used for five different world languages. So you don't need to have many different apps with different dictionaries on your phone, just one is enough. The menu includes English, German, French, Spanish and Russian dictionaries. The app itself is free, and individual dictionaries can be purchased for a reasonable €1,79 each. The nice thing is that you can try each of the five dictionaries for 14 days, so you don't risk buying the proverbial rabbit in the bag. In addition, an additional week of trial period can be obtained by simply sharing the promotional post on Facebook. The big advantage is that you won't need an internet connection to use the app. You will only need to connect when downloading individual dictionaries.
The database of words for individual dictionaries is extensive and will certainly be among the above-average ones in the App Store. For example, the English dictionary boasts the ability to translate more than 550 words, which is probably not enough for professional translators, but for the average user, the number of words is certainly enough. All five dictionaries together contain almost 000 million passwords.
Word search is very successful. In the lower part of the screen, you can switch between two directions of translation (e.g. English-Czech and Czech-English) and you can also choose a bidirectional dictionary. The positive thing is that even in two-way mode, the list of translations is relatively clear, because each password is provided with an appropriate flag. Searched passwords are displayed as you type, so it is usually not necessary to write the entire search word. For Czech words, the search box can deal with the words even if they are entered without diacritics. However, it should be noted that there is a bug in the current version of the application that makes it impossible to search for German words with special characters (sharp ß, umlauts,...). The other dictionaries of the application do not have this error. The developers are already aware of the problem and have promised to fix it soon.
Once you've finished entering the appropriate password, just select a result from the list and you'll be presented with different translation options. You can also switch to a list of related phrases at the bottom of the screen. There is also a speaker icon for each word, which can be used to start an audio recording with the correct pronunciation of the word. This function is very nice, but it must be noted that the more advanced functions of the application also end here. Although you can translate a foreign word relatively reliably in the Pocket Dictionary, you will not learn anything about its grammar, you will not find out how it behaves in the plural, how it is in other cases, or anything similar. Only the most basic information is available such as past tenses for irregular verbs in English.
The application itself is very successful and adheres to all modern design trends. Control is intuitive, the user interface is clear and simple. The dictionary in your pocket is 7% compatible with iOS XNUMX, has a clean and precise design and, for example, there is also the possibility to go back one step using the typical drag of the finger from the left edge of the display. However, this gesture only works in one direction (back only) and is accompanied by an animation atypical for iOS, which can be compared to flashing. A classic transition animation would be more appropriate here, but this is more or less a detail that is not exactly crucial for the dictionary.
The pocket dictionary is optimized for both iPhone and iPad, which is its big advantage. In addition, it scores primarily with the quality of the application itself, the complexity ensuring use for 5 world languages and the size of the word database for individual dictionaries. It is also nice to be able to listen to the correct pronunciation. The disadvantage could be the absence of any more complex grammar. After downloading, you can try the pocket dictionary for free for 14 days. There is also a paid version that contains five language packs and costs 3,59 euros. Now, in addition, this advantageous package is going into a weekly sale and will be available for purchase for, without exaggeration, an unbeatable 89 cents.

Tried and tested. Great app for a great price! I recommend
I don't have a problem with the application, but I just can't buy and download the package. After clicking on the link, I jump to the App Store, but only an empty white window appears there.
Unfortunately, I have exactly the same experience...
I don't have a problem with it - on an iPhone on a desktop Mac it redirects me correctly to the AppStore.
the paid version link works for me, but the free link takes me to apple.com
I bought it today and on iOS7.1 the app started, but as soon as I downloaded the dictionaries, I won't launch it, it crashes immediately :-( Otherwise, I think it can't compete with PCT+ from LangSoft, but there is also a different price (EN I think around EUR15, the others around EUR8).
Everything great. Thank you very much for pointing out this app
The package of 5 languages doesn't work for me either. The App Store opens and there's just a blank window. It does this on both iPhone and iPad. On wifi and mobile data network. So I give up and delete the app.
I also bought the application, but after downloading the dictionaries, I can no longer start it, it crashes immediately. Good advertisement. So I recommend NOT to buy.
It works fine for me on iOS 7.1 and iPhone 4S be JB. Does reinstalling help?
What is the use of a dictionary that can find the Czech equivalent of an English expression, but the English pronunciation is nowhere to be found. IPhone only (tablet in portrait no). A waste of mist, or why have something (clearly) on one screen, when it works on two or three. They are different, better. The price doesn't excuse it.
Even though I only spent €0,89 in the promotion for it, it doesn't hurt so much that I deleted the shop again after ten minutes. A dictionary without priorities, which throws out all possible meanings for you without order and storage, sorted like God (alphabetically?), among them dozens of idioms in one pile, that's really useless. For illustration, search for example English "dog", you will understand.
