The Skype for iOS app never got much care from the developers, and unfortunately it showed. It wasn't exactly a successful or popular application. However, Microsoft is now changing its approach, has released a major update and seems to be taking its communication service seriously even on Apple phones.
Basically, Skype has received a redesign for the first time after four years of existence on the iOS platform, and it finally looks the world. The new Skype is simpler, clearer and a bit more focused on common messaging. It should be noted that the redesign is largely inspired by the appearance of Windows Phone applications, but the new look does not look out of place on iOS either.
The menu located in the bottom bar is very simple and only allows you to switch between the dial pad for dialing phone numbers and the message mode. Nothing more is needed. Simplicity is also preserved in the message mode itself, where you can scroll between the contact search screen, the overview of recent conversations or the list of favorite contacts with a simple swipe of your finger. The developers behind Skype thus listened to the wishes of their customers and finally created an application that meets the requirements of an ordinary user, as well as a product corresponding to current trends.
As already outlined, the new Skype is much more focused on messaging, and while it's still clear that typing is definitely not the main domain of the service, it's a big step forward. Microsoft has improved group chat and made it easier to send photos and videos. It is evident that the application is trying to at least match the simultaneously more successful communication applications such as WhatsApp and become a more universal application that meets the requirements of today's users.
The new Skype is more modern in every way, and that innovation can be seen in every element of the user interface. App navigation is faster, more straightforward and more intuitive. In addition, the user experience is complemented by eye-pleasing animations. The icing on the cake is the pleasant background music that replaces the classic sound of a dialed call.
You can download Skype 5.0 for iPhone for free, the iPad version has not been updated yet.

"finally looks the world"? The old design was more than good and mostly usable. The new design copies the functionality from Windows Phone and is very confusing. I'm not buying an iPhone to make it look like a Windows Phone inside.
I completely agree, the current design was completely fine - moreover according to the iOS7 guidelines. I don't want this bastard. If only they had focused on fixing notifications rather than screwing WP8 design into iOS. It shines like a h***** on the altar. What is the main thing, it does not make sense, the controls in WP8 are aligned, so everything is controlled by the user in the same way. This is a completely anti-user approach. I'll probably switch to IM+…
Why are the clouds in the Contact list there? Not only is Skype an unergonomic burden on the desktop, but they make it a mess on mobiles as well.
Am I the only one who likes the new Skype???
Very confusing?? Three menu options at the top of the scrolling list, three buttons at the bottom that you don't even have to click and it's clear to you at first glance what it means...and it's really confusing!:-) For me, a big step forward, compared to the old ugly version.
I don't understand the constant changes in many apks. why is it good what was above is below maine indistinct colors. The user still has to learn to control the app again. It's not just a case of Skype. If car manufacturers acted like this, car owners would shoot themselves in the head. :-)
History cannot be erased. :(
oh yeah why
I noticed that too and I don't like it.
