Jiří Filip If you follow the events surrounding Apple more widely, you certainly did not miss the speculation regarding the preparations of the cheapest AirPods in its history. For now, these are referred to in leaker circles as AirPods Lite, with Apple reportedly expecting a price of around $99, i.e. about CZK 2200 without tax and other fees. It is quite surprising, however, that under the articles on this topic there are sometimes comments from apple lovers announcing that such AirPods are not needed at all in Apple's offer. However, the truth is the opposite.
AirPods are undoubtedly great headphones, not so much in terms of sound, but rather because of how perfectly they fit into the Apple ecosystem. In short and well, once a person steps into the world of Apple, it is likely that it will be AirPods that will expand it. The problem, however, is that not everyone uses the headphones "fully", in other words, to listen to music, watch movies and so on for several hours a day. So for these users, it is definitely worth considering whether to put their money into AirPods or not. At the moment, they have the opportunity to buy AirPods 2nd generation, which can be obtained at a discount for under 3000 CZK, but even that is not a completely low amount and may therefore discourage many from buying, or at least they may not reach for the headphones as quickly as they would. if it was cheaper. However, all this does not matter in the end, because it is clear that Apple will remove AirPods 2 from sale sooner or later anyway, since they already have their age, which is reflected in the hardware.
However, by withdrawing AirPods 2 from its offer, Apple would ultimately harm itself extremely, because it would close the door to either savers or, in short, to those who cannot use AirPods to the maximum and therefore only want them for specific activities - for example, only for calls and so similar. And it is hard to imagine that this type of user would be "okay" with the fact that they would suddenly not have to pay CZK 3000 for headphones, but almost CZK 5000 for AirPods 3, if they wanted AirPods. Sure, they don't have to want them, but Apple certainly doesn't want to and won't calculate with this scenario. After all, AirPods are one of the most popular headphones in the world, and the possibility that someone would not want them - an apple-picker - is minimal.
It is therefore absolutely clear that a cheaper version of AirPods simply has to arrive so that Apple can "kill" AirPods 2 without fear. That AirPods Lite would bring even higher sales thanks to the lower price and, with a bit of luck, an influx of completely new users who would switch to them from cheaper headphones, these are secondary things in a way (though of course still very important). However, it is even more important for Apple to keep its portfolio open to as many users as possible, but at the same time in a state that makes sense in terms of the components used and so on. It is clear that AirPods Lite will offer a number of components from the higher AirPods series, but they will of course be trimmed down in some ways. And this is precisely the meaning Apple will definitely find in cheap AirPods.
